  1. Lies. The whole division is caused by Republicans’ games since the Obama era. Democrats have reached out multiple times to work with Republicans since 2008. Republicans rebuffed the Democrats at every turn. In Congress they spent their time and energy blocking Obama’s and Democrats’ agenda, purely out of spite and to portray them as ineffective. They promoted bogus conspiracy theories like Birtherism and Benghazi. They blamed Obama for mishandling the Ebola Crisis despite it barely affecting the US at all. They blamed Obama and Sec. of State Hillary Clinton for the attack on Benghazi, despite multiple attacks on embassies/consulates during the Bush years, all without any GOP slandering.

US protects East Asian nations, especially Japan and Taiwan, from China under the CCP. What good does Germany do? Who does Germany help?

US politicians were debating ending the War in Afghanistan as far back as 2012, when Presidential Candidates Obama (D) and Romney (R) both hinted at ending the war. Later Obama drew down troop levels. The writing for withdrawal was on the wall, unless Afghanistan shaped up and ended the incessant corruption found at all government levels. I think leaving was a bad idea, but to say Afghanistan had no warning is untrue. They had plenty of warnings, they didn’t care to address the US’s core concerns of fighting corruption.

Germany sent token forces in Afghanistan and did nothing but stand around while other nations, the UK, the US, Afghanistan itself, actually made sacrifices to get the job done. Germans sat in their bases and did nothing but posture.

  20.  @theholypotato7763  what Republicans are doing now, since Obama won in 2008, is insidious and never been done before. They are not winning over people based on appeals to logic. They tell flagrant lies and their base swallows it, ignoring reality and fact checkers. This isn’t only unfair to the opposition, it’s destructive and corrupt. Trump is the latest example. The Republican Party repeats lies, their media allies on tv and social media ensure that opposing viewpoints-which includes the truth-are not seen by their base, which means that we a have a party which believes in anti-science, anti-vax, and denies Climate Change, all because the right wing promotes fringe conspiracy theories. Think about that, half of this country, 150+ million people, believe in lies, promoted solely by lying politicians, who believe these lies, though harmful to the country and to the voters themselves, are useful ways to get elected and drum up the base.

  27. @P Pierre comparing the US to the Taliban is absurd. NGO reports like the Democracy Index rate the US highly and the Taliban are condemned. US gave rights to Afghans especially improving women, minorities. Taliban have defined themselves as taking away the rights US gave them. Now women can’t go to school, can’t marry who they want, can be taken as wives by Taliban fighters, etc.

  28. @P Pierre and what did Germany do? They did very little to help Afghans, they talked from the sidelines while the US went in and got dirty, bringing war to the Taliban and aid to the people. The best thing Germany did was take in lots of refugees, I’ll give Germany credit for that. But their impact was minimal overall.

I believe the people who run the actual military would agree with you that targeting civilians is wrong. China and Russia would disagree. Russia kills many civilians in Syria as they target moderate groups like the FSA or SDF, in support of Assad.

That’s more than Germany did, so therefore US is better than Germany for Afghan people. US nationbuilding is proven effective. US also won the Korean War, helped Israel repel multiple wars started by hostile, Soviet backed neighbors like PLO, Baathists, etc, won the Korean War, and won the Cold War

  33.  Ken Hugehugerod  Germany sat there and didn’t do anything. At least the US tried to help South Vietnam, unlike the 2 Germany’s which either helped the Soviets or did nothing much useful. Also, to say the US fled Korea is wrong, the US is still in South Korea and helps to protect it from North Korea, China, and the Soviet Union/Russia. What does Germany do? Nothing. US at least tries, US gave Afghan women, men, their rights and freedoms, Taliban took them away. That’s their legacy. Germans looked on and did nothing.

I only trust consensus and reliable sources. Her word on a non-serious talk show is not enough evidence to be certain. She may have been exaggerating in order to improve her image or making other misleading statements for political gain

Dangerous because there are bad people like the Taliban, CCP, Putinists, etc who thrive off of lies and demoralizing the US, because only them can they carry out their corrupt and hateful agendas. By dissuading the voting public and enabling populists like Trump, the World’s Policeman is being paralyzed from within. If the Developed World keeps believing lies and opinions over truth, eventually the world will reach a tipping point where our opinions won’t be heard anymore, Pax Americana, NATO etc will be irrelevant and countries like the Taliban or China under the CCP will call the shots. That won’t be in people’s best interests.

  38.  @lHawkyl  US spent in Afghanistan 20 trillion USD overall. Just in 2019, US spent 4.9 billion USD strictly in humanitarian aid, according to USAID and the State Department. US selflessly placed its soldiers in danger to rebuild Afghanistan after 9/11, despite the terrorist threat of Al-Qaeda being neutralized. US rebuilt Afghanistan like it rebuilt Germany. That’s more than Germany ever offered other nations.

Millions of Afghans defected from the army and fought them plus their Soviet backers as the Muj. Saying that the Mujahideen were all Taliban is also wildly untrue, the Taliban came after the Muj. Not all Muj joined the Taliban, some joined the progressive Northern Alliance. Which featured secular and progressive policies like feminism, etc. US and others had reason to back these people

Germans are quick to condemn US Interventionism, but are complicit with dictatorships. The people don’t have a solution better than US Interventionism for fighting dictatorships. Which to me suggests they want appeasement. This makes them selfish
