It seems strange to me that the Royal Charles was not used as flagship of a colonial squadron.

@jurrekieboom2208 It was a wooden ship the, most of the raw materials for maintaining it existed in the colonies and setting up the infrastructure to produce the planking and mast timbers, canvas, and cordage would also produce material to be shipped back to the mother country for use and sale. Do you think that natives were too stupid to be sailors as well? The Royal Charles would have presented pirates with an out of context problem as well as keeping the British merchantmen polite. But then my solution to the problem of the Netherlands being a small nation is to assimilate the colonials into being Dutch people.

@jurrekieboom2208 The flagship of a squadron not the sole ship. And the pirates would go elsewhere out of Dutch waters because they don't want to be the luckless bastards that run into her. Hundreds of men in the same city as their wives and children is rarely a bad problem. This was a time when captains didn't trust their crews anyway. Feeding the crew is a problem but the decrease in piracy would pay for it.

@jurrekieboom2208 Disguised as a rich merchantman she will find pirates to kill. And when the next war starts you have the ship to fight it with. That is not the definition of territorial waters anybody competent use.
