Just a SWAG but 83.5mm could be 4-pdr particularly if their iron was unusually low in graphite. During the USofA Civil war German guns were a little large because German cast iron was unusually high in graphite.

It is within spitting distance of being a 4-pounder. It could have been the manufacturer's measurement standards were off when developing it. But it could be meant to be 83mm but by the time they reamed and rifled the guns they were oversized.

@kemarisite YouTube ate a comment with a link to the information. Try researching. The 24-pounder long gun was a heavy calibre piece of artillery mounted on French warships of the Age of sail, second only to the 36-pounder long gun. Crew: 12 gunners and one powder-boy Calibre: 152,2 mm Weight: 2.500 metric tons And The Canon de 4 Gribeauval or 4-pounder was a French cannon. The 83.5mm fits right in with that group of triple A guns but it also fits as a 4-pdr using heavier than average cast iron round shot.

@redtob2119 The treaty forbid selling capital ships on.

@kemarisite That British gun shell weight was 25 pounds but not round shot and really confuses the issue.

@kemarisite Pounder is simply a way of measuring the bore of a cannon based on how heavy of an iron ball fits the bore. Until the development of hollow shot it also told you how much the cannon ball weighs.
