  6. Kurt Tank spent some time in Argentina after WW2, his presence there would have been a positive boost for aeronautical engineering in Argentina. The FMA Purara is a great looking plane.

  11. The original Mustang was vulnerable to ground fire, but the Piper PA-48 Enforcer looks and sounds like it's better suited for close air ground support. In Vietnam they used the Bronco OV-10, it always looked pretty good too.

  12. Forty years after the war and Argentina still claims the Falkland Island is theirs is interesting. The Brits have been there longer than anybody else, the Argentinians should forget about it and try and get along!

  15.  @bobsage4963  ~ I like Eric winkle Brown so much better than the likes of Sir Elton John, Sir Patrick Stewart, and Sir Paul McCarthy, these entertainers cheapen the title "Sir". -- They should have awarded Capt. Brown the Victoria Cross, he certainly had courage and nerve like none other and was a major contributor to the Allied war effort and post war aircraft design. He was an amazing man.

  16. All the Lavi technology probably didn't go to waste and has been transitioned into other aircraft design, that makes good business sense. The Lavi prototypes look similar to the Rafale, and the F-16, but even more like the J-10 fighter.

  18. I've seen the Gnat before on the internet, and everybody that flew them, loved them. It could have and should have been developed further, it was simple and relatively inexpensive.

Interesting history, Bell did good in the development of the attack helicopter. -- But, I wonder about Robert Mcnamara's role in putting American troops into Vietnam, As Secretary of Defense and his relationship to the military industrial complex, were they motivated by the prospective profits that they would make by launching the war in Vietnam? -- I would say YES! War is good for THEIR business, but not for the average man's business. -- Good video Ed, thank you.

  34.  @ImpendingJoker  ~ Israelis have loved the F-16 since it first came out and would have had knowledge of the F-16XL. They probably had access to high level information from Dassault Aviation and the Saab, fighter programs, and probably decided it was easier to buy the best equipment rather than make it. So they stopped developing the Lavi and parlayed it's engineering assets into business assets.

  37. I'll bet the US will cancel their order for a 1,000 more F-35's, it's to expensive, the plane has problems and it doesn't live up to it's expectations. To bad for you Dutch, you should have bought Saab Gripens.

  39.  @DrivermanO  ~ Maybe the de Havilland DH 108 "Swallow" could be considered the enemy? It did killed Geoffrey de Havilland Jr, but Eric lived after nearly dying from the flying the Swallow, he had a lot of nerve and everybody respects that. Then again, Eric was an elite test pilot and it was his job to push the limits of aircraft envelopes, and this was routine practice throughout his career. As for the Victoria Cross being awarded to celebrities who never displayed extreme gallantry in life threatening situations, this seems more politically earned than for courageous reasons.

  45. The Focke Wulf Fw 187 was Kurt Tank design! History proved his design work to be as good as it could be! Sounds like some German bureaucrats in the defense ministry blew it, by not developing the Fw 187!

  49.  @lolkevandewitte1713  ~ Lockheed Martin peddling flawed airplanes to corruptible Ministers of Defense has happened before with the F104 Starfighter. Dassault Mirage IIIA was by far superior fighter than the F-104. It was a better multi-role aircraft, better in dogfights and more suitable for ground attack due to larger wing area. The F-104 had a poor combat record, it wasn't used much in Vietnam, could not do close air support for ground troops, and could not maneuver or dogfight. The West Germans lost about 30% of their F-104s over the years, killing 110 pilots in the process. Not to be outdone, Canada lost 110 of their 235 CF-104s. Germany should have bought the Mirage IIIA, but was bribed to buy the F-104 (Lockheed). Canada had a great multi-role fighter that was being developed in 1958, but it was suddenly canceled and scrapped. They bought a mix of F-104's and F-101's.   50. This is almost like science fiction aircraft, but it's not. One should wonder how much we're told about these planes, and how much we were not told about them? It was top secrete back in their day and probably still has many secretes not yet revealed.
