@noway8259 By oppression he is referring to a nation having a permanent underclass as a defining feature of that country. He implies as much with his examples being South Africa and Russia. Not the supplanting of a previous population, while that may fit into a broad definition of oppression, such a description isn’t useful when comparing different nations. This is largely because every nation that exits today exists because the people of that country had genocided the previous population, either directly or through mere marginalization. For example the only reason there are Indonesians in Indonesia, is because their ancestors genocided the previous population who were basically aboriginal Australians. And while is true that the contemporary Indonesian government isn’t responsible, a case could still be made that Indonesia is still built on oppression, even if indirectly, given that the Indonesian people are there because of genocide. Since this is a broad definition that encapsulates all nations it’s useless

@amirekinartail8623 I think the distinction is that the United States is founded on freedom in the American Revolution and liberalism But that that liberality is a progressive and gradual change to the full realization of those goals. It’s a bug that hasn’t been treated yet. The same cannot be said of Russia or South Africa, where a permanent underclass is a feature. Especially in Russia, a country that is by nature autocratic and authoritarian
