  1. Why, it's just throwing away centuries of tradition and light rule for Chinese money and possibly, ironically, future Chinese imperialism. And if you're Canadian, Australian or elsewhere in the Commonwealth you already ARE independent moron, you just have the Queen as a powerless figurehead on your money

Aside from making a few anti-British people and hardline left-wingers happy, the people who always rant on about slavery despite it being us who ENDED the slave trade, what else is actually changing for the better here, for Barbados or anywhere else? They're already all self-governing for the most part, all these Carribean former colonies turned Commonwealth Realms or Overseas Territories, just with the Queen as a Head Of State figurehead who's considered important but with little real power there anymore besides having her face on the money. Canada, Australia and New Zealand which are frankly all substantially larger and more important places all seem ok with carrying on the exact same centuries-old traditions that don't hurt anybody, keeping some reminders of their British past while looking to the future, as for that matter do the Falkland Islands, Gibraltar, Cyprus and many OTHER small remote islands or cities that are or used to be British colonies, they're all happy to keep the historical and ancestral links alive while ALSO managing their own affairs without needing Britain to hold their hands anymore, as they are all completely free and able to do, Nepal even still happily lets us recruit Ghurkas for the British Army; hell even India seems happy to be a close friend and ally that maintains strong political, economic and military links as of course does America. Only reason Hong Kong isn't still a British colony in their case is because in 1997 we respected their wishes and willingly handed them over to Communist China, a decision they're definitely regretting now lol or would be if they were still allowed to talk about it, something other places wanting quote "freedom" should definitely keep in mind, given China's desire to control anything it sets it's sights on while at the same time hypocritically banging on about "Imperialism"

  10.  @PatrickTreacyAilesbury  propaganda or not it's still pretty hypocritical for Americans to ever lecture the British of all people (y'know the guys who ENDED the international slave-trade, hadn't had slavery back in Britain itself since the 11th century, ended slavery throughout our Empire over 30 years before you ever did, were pretty light rulers OVER said Empire for the most part and who generally left all our former colonies in a far better condition than when we found them, and who have a proven centuries-older Democratic Parliamentary government system) on quote "freedom"

  11.  @PatrickTreacyAilesbury  the "People's Republic" Of China, y'know the guys who actually talked and bribed Barbados into doing this, are supposedly Communist and anti-Imperialist, their military's even still called the "People's Liberation Army", but ask a resident of Hong Kong if they're happier now under the err... "benevolent" rule of the Chinese Communist Party than they were under that of the British. Yeah. Better watch out Barbados, Taiwan already is doing as they know they're next

Queen Elizabeth II is a figurehead ruler, the Head Of State, she doesn't have much part in the actual day-to-day governing of her Realm; the actual LEADERS of the UK and the Commonwealth countries are the various democratically elected Prime Ministers and the Parliaments they stand at the head of

The only thing about Britain's history in that regard that DOESN'T get talked about enough already, is our part in ENDING it. Frankly we get beaten over the head with the BAD side of our slave-trade history every chance our critics get, but when was the last time the efforts of the Abolitionists, or William Wilberforce or the West Africa Squadron got any praise in the mainstream media
