Hugh Jarsol I hope your wrong but frankly I doubt it

@jb76489 she'll have the Dragonfire laser defence system too eventually, when it's ready, and regardless this ship will be escorted by a complete group of the best destroyers, frigates, submarines, land-based aircraft and support vessels we have when fully operational, at all times. This ship is the biggest, most powerful and most valuable conventional military asset we have
5
@jacobwaller1437 they also have a larger defence budget than the next most powerful 26 countries COMBINED so for us to even just be COMPARABLE is impressive in itself
4
@jb76489 it is true
4
@jb76489 and in the meantime yes she has 'only' ballistic defences- the same 'CWIS' the Americans use, that can rip a missile, drone, aircraft or anything else apart in seconds. And unlike the Russian or Chinese barely-functional junkheaps this is a dedicated aircraft carrier, not half-carrier half-cruiser, so no she's not festooned with her own missiles and loaded with heavy cannons, but you know what ARE? the aircraft she carries and the escort ships around her

@damianm-nordhorn116 agreed 🙂 Brexit or no Brexit I hope we always stand shoulder-to-shoulder from now on on land, and at sea well between us and the Americans that's pretty well covered anyway haha

Hey at least we HAVE carriers haha 😜 (just trollin' lol). And if you were an enemy on the recieving end of what those planes can deliver you'd not find it so boring
2
@jb76489 and? Yeah so we'll never have quite the same punch the Americans do, y'know our, again, CLOSEST ALLIES?! the people we've specifically tailored these to work alongside? And you know what's less capable than a fully-equipped, fully-operational QE-class? LITERALLY EVERYTHING ELSE
2
@dbdb9334 damn right
2
@jb76489 by land-based aircraft I meant ASW and reconnaissance aircraft like the new P-8 Poseidons
2
Brett Mitchell and no, it doesn't, it just helps a lot, in certain situations and when close enough
2
@jb76489 they would have cost billions either way and this way it keeps the second carrier, Prince Of Wales that bit further away from Corbyn's chopping block. And as for 'touching a nerve' trust me you'll know about it when you've done that
1
@jb76489 seems to have so far, we'll see. It also means we get two capable carriers instead of just one very capable but a lot more expensive one, which means that while the one is in dock for maintenance the other can still operate, therefore we will have at least one ready 24/7 instead of having to wait like Russia, India or France. It's a worthwhile, sensible and logical cost-saving that sacrificed some aircraft capacity for actually having a properly available-for-service carrier group. Not sure those are concepts someone like you could ever fully grasp though, at least not while you're so ridiculously blind to any good aspects this carrier design does have
1
@Then.72 ?
1
@Explosivefox109 well both sorts are on her now for a total of five aboard at present
1
@TheBarnestah damn right
1
@jb76489 and what do YOU have exactly? Hmm?
1
@jb76489 and define 'supercarrier' then, just because it's not CATOBAR doesn't mean it isn't one, it's almost the same size as a Nimitz-class
1
If say a suicidal 'Kamikaze'-style attack was about to hit this way only one tower would be crippled, rather than the whole ship, built-in redundancy
1
@MonkeyBidness359 without the United States we'd still have aircraft carriers either way AND still be a major superpower ourselves
1
BLACK BOTO where the hell did you get that idea?! Relying heavily on allies is not the same thing as needing them 24/7 and if we DIDN'T have the allies in question but we DID have the same enemies, we'd still have a lot more such ships anyway, as the justification for tight-fisted governments scrapping them or selling them off wouldn't be there; as it is we ARE gradually building more at least now
1
@chrisdelzell8467 and we appreciate the help of course but we could find ways to manage without if we had to
1
@iracingrookie3301 couldn't agree more, no fan of 'BoJo' but he's the lesser of two evils as far as I'm concerned, far, far lesser
