Wasn't aware the RAF had ammo for that 27mm cannon as they decided not to bother with the time or expense of using it, maintaining it or storing ammo for it and wanted to use the Typhoon with bombs or missiles alone, glad to see they've apparently changed their minds about that!

@mikeycraig8970 to be fair the gun was always there and supposedly kept in full working order on each plane in case they WERE ever to be put to use, they just never were used and no ammo was kept in inventory for the purpose. Maybe one of the other users of that Mauser 27mm had a job-lot of ammo for it they didn't need anymore and were selling it off cheap, and the government suddenly remembered we're still trying to use supersonic state-of-the-art air-superiority dogfighters flown by highly-trained professional combat-pilots to fight against a bunch of wannabe martyrs in pick-up trucks, and thought using something cheaper than Paveway bombs or Meteors on said pick-up trucks might be a good idea? who knows

@andyberryman3148 maybe so! That could just be weathering from long use in harsh climates or weather or polluted skies mind though, or their flying through the smoke from bomb-detonations or burning stuff below, as the airflow hitting the front of the plane that doesn't go through the engine intake will've been carefully contoured to flow along the wings instead. If it's noticeably darker on one side than the other that could be from the cannon though as there's only the one gun

@realQuiGon as I was mentioning before, and yep it's a German Mauser 27mm autocannon, no Gau-8 but still a pretty effective ground-strafing weapon in the right hands; when the RAF first got the Typhoon it did come with the gun just as the ones in German service had, but they decided against training to use it, anything but the most basic maintenance for it or on stockpiling large quantities of ammo for it (specifically for the Typhoon's guns at least) as it was a weapon they simply didn't see as necessary for training to use on the Typhoon at the time; bombs, rockets or missiles were to be the focus (apparently none of them had watched documentaries about the F4 Phantom in Vietnam lol). If it IS in full use now though, about time, but that'll be due to a recent and quite dramatic change in thinking at the top and sudden change of all of the above in turn, so actually quite a big deal which is why I'm surprised we haven't heard more about this
