Well remember they weren't actually that obsolete by 1940 standards, as he says they actually did surprisingly well against supposedly more modern aircraft and were certainly more than a match in the right hands for anything the Russians had at the time

@Charlesputnam-bn9zy well yeah, but it could be argued the I-16 for all it's successes was, by that point, if anything MORE obsolete than the Buffalo or D-XXI were, and all three were DEFINITELY completely obsolete compared to a Messerschmitt Bf-109E, but with, yes a good enough pilot at the controls all three could still win the day in theory nonetheless

@athelwulfgalland well the Caudron C-714 wasn't actually that bad as an aircraft, it just was never cut out to be a full-on combat fighter, it just wasn't fast enough, tough enough or well-armed enough; oh the Poles made surprisingly good use of them in the Battle Of France of course but that was frankly only because there was nothing better available for them to fly at the time, and their successes were far more a testament to their skill, determination and experience as pilots than to the quality of the aircraft, a French Spitfire it was not lol. That said, just as a general-purpose light aircraft it was actually a perfectly good design though, bet they'd have made perfectly good reconnaissance or liaison or training aircraft or something instead, so it's actually a real shame that they're almost forgotten now

Yes it looks like a 1930's transitional aircraft, so what, that's what it IS?

@samulilahnamaki3127 surprising that actually, given that, while never the fastest or most manueverable of fighters the Hawker Hurricane definitely held it's own throughout WW2 everywhere else it fought, especially in the Battle Of Britain, and it's well known to have been an exceptionally tough, stable, hardy aircraft and a great easily-upgradable gun-platform, with a solid landing gear that could easily be changed to ski's; you'd think the Finns would've loved them!

@athelwulfgalland agreed fully and oh same here absolutely lol. Still GOT my own little model of one on a shelf somewhere. Also have my own Dewoitine D-520 and MS-406 among other obscure French types, along with a Polish P-11

@scootergeorge9576 sounds like a Blues or Jazz musician lol

Largely useless in the end, just like the government that actually thought them more important than fighters? Sorry if that sounds harsh but it's also a pretty fair statement surely

@Charlesputnam-bn9zy agreed, was definitely a very capable fighter by 1930's standards that, with an excellent engine and well-thought-out design, was an agile little thing you could chuck all over the sky and it could take a lot of damage

@scootergeorge9576 slow clap
