From wiki
Hawke's bow, which had been designed to sink ships by ramming them, collided with Olympic's starboard side near the stern,[49] tearing two large holes in Olympic's hull, above and below the waterline, resulting in the flooding of two of her watertight compartments and a twisted propeller shaft.
From a post on Quora, communication between the Admiralty and the Board of Trade.
The impact was more serious than first thought causing £125,000 damage to Olympic including bending her keel which meant she was unseaworthy.
Quote - How many differences were there between Titanic and Olympic?
Unsure but Royal Carribean International owns the Oasis of the Seas and Allure of the Seas which is 50mm longer and they are similar. Harmony of the Seas is only 8ft longer and looks similar to the previous 2!!
I know someone who used to be a Chief Engineer and now works as a marine vessel inspector for an insurance company and he has told me it is quite common for two identical ships to be built and these can be swapped over.
I'd imagine that once the Olympic sunk it was impossible to identify whether any insurance crime had been comitted.
Quote - How long in your opinion would it take to "switch" the two ships?
It's not for me to say but knowing that people are capable of any 'crime' paying off a good number of people, I reckon it could easily be done overnight.
Lots of people make bogus claims on their insurance to get a new kitchen, perhaps a new car or carpets, new roof even so there's no reason it doesn't occur on a much larger scale involving business.
It is unfortunate that life is a business for many people and all they think about is money!!!
