  7. I doubt it would have mattered what aircraft undertook the spotting role, the Germans had greater numbers of fighters and more experienced pilots at the start of the war.

  9. The trouble with F18s is that they will likely have to be new. There are few examples available on the second hand market and they are mostly old and have low residual airframe life. Old USN examples exist, but carrier life takes a massive toll on airframes.
