@soulscanner66 When you start a war with a surprise attack, treat prisoners of war as vermin, use civilians as "targets" in explosives trials and indoctrinate your own population to believe that death is preferable to surrender, you are to blame for what happens next. More civilians died in two days of conventional bombing of Tokyo than died in Hiroshima or Nagasaki. Many more would have died in a conventional invasion of Japan. A great many more would have died in Europe were it not for the fear of a nuclear conflict between East and West.

@soulscanner66 In WW2 civilians were considered as collateral damage. Guernica, London, Coventry, Valletta, Hamburg, Dresden, Tokyo. Cities on all sides suffered horrible bombing and loss of life. Hiroshima and Nagasaki were terrible events, but they demonstrated what would happen if the war continued. They demonstrated what would happen to us all if the major powers fought another world war.

@flyboyben8384 The British did not engage in "Terror bombing" from day one. We responded to attacks on London in a similar manner. Easy for the US to stay out of it when they had not been on the receiving end.

"The atomic bombings of Japan are considered by many to have ended WW2, this is partially correct" No, it is correct. Whatever else occurred in the run up to the final surrender, it was the two A-bombs and the prospect of more to follow, that convinced the Emperor and cabinet to surrender.
