Let them join. Any disenchanted youth in North America or Europe wanting to join these nutjobs will be in for a rude awaking when they get there. Also they're joining helps us because these geniuses are the types who are likely to throw the pin and pocket the grenade.

valgehiir I would use the word nuance because a person like you thinks in simple black-n-white terms especially when you write of the "horrors of Islam." People like are counter-productive. You'll throw rocks at people calling them stupid for their beliefs and then expect them to listen to your "logical" arguments. TYT has done numerous stories on muslims behaving badly but the thing here is that Harris and his fanboy approach is to throw the entire 1.5 muslim people under the bus which helps ISIS in winning the propaganda war as we have seen western muslim youths trying to join this band of psychos.

valgehiir please do except with people who actually rationalize everything in the Koran which neither Reza and especially Cenk don't do - but there's the rub you are so eaten away with your petty little anger you have plugged your ears and made strawmen out of people like Reza&Cenk also you are too stupid and too simpleminded to understand their nuanced position.

who are the Islamic apologists who try to rationalize everything in the Quran? Name some.

Edward Elric weinberg is wrong - it takes rationalization and humans will rationalize anything to justify their actions and use anything such as religion, nationalism, racial pride, tribalism, ideology, etc... "i am not willig to ignore the negative teachings of an ancient warmonger which have a severe impact on people today." And this is why I say you have no clue. For one thing Muhammad did not start off as a warmonger. He was merchant. It was the people of Mecca driving him out which started him down this road and a number of campaigns were defensive in nature. In this regard he is little different than Old Testament leaders. And were all of his teachings negative? They were teachings for a different age and culture. Judging 7th Century morality by 21st is not very fair or wise. A severe impact on people today? Who is bombing most countries and occupying them? Who is exploiting the resources and labor of developing countries? Are Islamic countries responsible for pushing us to the edge of environmental destruction? This is ultimately what I have a problem with Harris's version of criticism of Islam - making Islam into some global problem which it really isn't. It comes off as high-handed cultural imperialism with a narrow American perspective whose culture could be rightly seen by objective eyes as currently a bullying one and one that is woefully and often willfully ignorant.

valgehiir I think you think that's what you are doing but you lack perspective to understand how it comes off to a minority in this country when talking heads on both sides basically trash their faith while people like Harris advocate higher profiling of and basically treating with suspicious thus giving some of them inspiration to join a group like ISIS. And from outside for those in Islamic countries primarily the ones the US and Europeans are warring against and/or occupying it comes off as cultural imperialism which seeks to destroy their faith and their culture. And these things are what ISIS is capitalizing on both for recruitment and creating befuddlement in their muslim enemies who are confused over who is the bigger threat to them - ISIS who wants to establish a caliphate over them or the Western Powers who have a long track record of meddling and exploitation in the region? What works better is a more intelligent approach such as supporting the reformers, the imams who denounce things like suicide bombing, the NGOs which work with oppressed groups in those countries.

valgehiir As soon as you stop the meme of "Islam is horrible" because you don't understand that society. Seriously, what are you going to do shoot all the imams and tear down the mosques? Try to use your brain more productively by criticizing that father for his actions rather than a religion followed by 1.5 billion people the vast majority of whom would never stone their children and would take offense at such a suggestion.

valgehiir funny I think you are young, untraveled, educated mainly thru secondary sources... I said society because as Reza pointed out making sweeping generalizations does no good. And I will not see your bias view that you mistake for objectivity.

Edward Elric do you live in those countries? If the people of those countries choose to follow a certain path - what are you going to do about it? Invade and impose your cultural morality on them?
2
Edward Elric You can have empathy by supporting reform but understand that by completely dissing the entirety of Islam you are actually doing them a disservice because many of them don't want to throw Islam out with the bath water. Also their critics will point to people like O'Reilly and Harris and use them to get more people to rally to their respective flags and cause more oppression. How about learning more about the individual cultures and finding out more about the separate socio-political situations in each one? Hold the individuals responsible who do heinous acts rather than ideology which you cannot reasonably snuff out and whose snuffing out won't stop greed, discrimination, exploitation, wars, basically every bad element of humanity.
2
Edward Elric No I only sound like an apologist to you because you really have no clue what you are talking about. The reason why you and your kind shy away from criticizing individuals and groups I feel stems from a general ignorance whereas generalized criticism makes it easier to avoid that. You can just point to a Koranic verse and say "see? They all bad!" and proceed no further. Why is me asking you to delve deeper than this superficial generalization of a religion a bad thing? Do you not like thinking?
