try to actually pay attention to a video before you go off half-cocked next time

they also have had dinosaur episodes - not saying the two are equivalent but dinos have nothing to do with "history" as history is not the past o everything but the past of humans particularly from the time of writing. As for the Bible, it has historical merit in that it has influence history tremendously such as in art, culture, society, etc... but it should be studied to show the impact not internally as a religious book for propagating one particular religion.

diehard conservatives see Obama in Satan or Satan in Obama because it fits their warped socio-political view of the world where Obama is this secret muslim communist atheist Hitler. Even Clinton never got this level of hate and lunacy from rightwingers. It just goes to show how far gone the far right has become. Even though it was not the intention of the producers, these rightwingers will just use this Obama-Satan perception to further fuel their justification to hate on Obama

total lack of contemporary evidence? And what would that be? A clip from the newspaper? You do realize that we don't have a huge database of written documents from ancient times? We are missing tons of stuff from the ancient world that didn't survive. We don't have all of Plutarch's works maybe a third or a half for example. Plus Jesus lived in what was for Rome a far away backwater so Roman writers would have had little interest.

why did they show episodes on dinosaurs and aliens? Ratings. But I hope they expand this and show Buddhists tales, the Koran, the Kojiki, and the Popol Voh

And is the Bible solely confined to Jesus? I wrote "The Bible" which includes actual historical events such as the Assyrian and Babylonian invasions and the Maccabee resistance. and there is no eye witness testimony that Khufu had the Pyramid built BTW. Also other historians have supernatural elements such as Livy, Herodotus (to the max), Plutarch, etc...

and that's your rebuttal? Seriously? I think you lack the understanding what history really is to understand my comment.

it does contain history - it's just not completely reliable in its accuracy but we shouldn't throw it out because we haven't found a hieroglyph about it or some classical writer in Rome didn't write about the going-ons in what was for Rome an unimportant backwater.

contemporary sources that we know of. People need to realize there is a huge dearth of written material which has survived from ancient times. Plus why would there be? His followers were mostly poor who wouldn't have been able to write nor be able to communicate to their Roman overlords who spoke Latin while they spoke Aramaic.
1
why would it disprove or prove the "magic"? Not having contemporary accounts because the chance of survival would be slim and where Jesus lived does not prove or disprove anything. someone could have written in old Cana "OMG! This guy turned our water into wine and we had a smashing party! He told me his name but I got so drunk I couldn't remember!" Then he sent it to his cousin whose goat ate it.

they aren't whining! Watch the damn video and pay attention! It was Glenn Beck that pointed it out and made it an issue not a liberal. fucking moron!

and who is say someone didn't and their house burned down along with their account? Try to understand something about history - first hand accounts are very very very rare and second hand accounts such as the works of Livy are to be treated with a grain of salt and they as well can be rare. There was no facebook back then nor any newspapers and Jesus lived in a small part of a vast empire.

did you ever see Ancient Aliens? Also they have done a number of shows on the Trojan War. History isn't just what happened but also speculation of what actual events old legends and myths refer to.
1
what do I call the writing on the actual pyramid? Nothing as there is none. The thing is Romans and Greeks accepted those supernatural events as facts. understanding this helps us understand them more. Understanding the miracles in the Bible helps us understand their impact on history. Much of what Jesus did real or not aside has long been part of our culture and language. Going back to the source material makes sense to understand this

And the Bible isn't based loosely off of real events? It is history just as much as Egyptian history which boasted about the deeds of the Pharaohs or Sumerian cuneiform telling of wars and conquests that were exaggerated. It's modern animosity toward religion today that makes us willing to accept a scrap of Egyptian papyrus as history while chucking the entire Bible out
1
and the bible isn't a part of history? I think the problem is many commentators here have a very poor understanding what history actually is. It's not just a matter of what happened but also what is believed to have happened and the effect of this belief.

which have a lot of history in them. They tell us a lot about the culture and mentality of those who wrote them and their audiences. If you study Ancient Greece and don't read Homer, you'll never really get the big picture

why are people feigning surprise over the History Channel showing stories from the Bible? They have had shows on dinosaurs (which while real are technically not history), ancient aliens, Atlantis, the Trojan War, etc...
