  1. 1
  2. Anti-anti-sjws are ruining actual critiques of the movie and the new series as whole and their whinings are being used to paint much if not all critics as rightwingers afraid of diversity. What is ruining Star wars is lousy unoriginal writing, characters without motivation or purpose, a focus on spectacle over coherent story and likable characters, and a soulless milking to death of an old cash cow. The movie sucked - not because of diversity or SJW crap but as a Star Wars continuation film and just as a movie itself. It dropped plot threads that had been dangled for two years just to slap film theorists in the face - alright I admit a bit of schadenfreude at all those Snoke/Rey theory videos people put hours into making but that's because I'm cynical and was expecting a lousy resolution but even in my most jadedness I did not expect them to just toss them aside like a bored old Luke tosses aside a lightsaber his father once owned. It stole the new Battlestar Galactica episode storyline with the Empire tracking them thru hyperspace then it became Fury Road in Space - CORRECTION! a slow Fury Road in Space. Did Dern have her turn signal on the whole time? It had a grumpy get-off-my-lawn-you-darn-jedi-kids completely out-of-character Luke Skywalker who despite going to great lengths to save his friends and save his father's soul in the originals and having left a map before the last movie inexplicably contemplated killing his own nephew, abandoning his friends and the Republic when they needed him, and did nothing productive on the island and got mad when someone actually followed the map he had left. It had a B story to knock out the Battlestar Galactica device which failed utterly and did not advance the story at all except to reintroduce and possibly kill off (again) Captain Fizzle. It had several endings and refused to end when it should have with the destruction of the flagship and the (lame spoiler!) death of Snokes dragging itself out another half-hour so we could have the Battle of Hoth Redux. At the end of the movie we are left with a Resistance of about a dozen people - one cannot come back for real life reasons (Carrie Fisher) - being lead by a hotshot pilot, a First Order deserter, and Junkyward Jedi all who barely know each in sharp contrast to the end of Empire where the core group had been together for two or three years so you felt their ties to each other. And on the other side you have the evil Nu-Empire led by a buffoonish admiral who falls for cell phone pranks and Emo Vader with anger management issues neither of which are very intimidating villains. So you see you don't have to be an SJW-hating Trumpster not to like a bad movie and if you look at a number of negative audience reviews on Rotten Tomato and elsewhere you will see far more critiques like mine than just - "Star Was suxs! Feminazis ruinsed it!!!" But Disney will sweep those critiques under the rug like Sony did with Ghostbuster 2016 critiques in the same vein and just focus on the fewer moronic rightwing complaints about Mary Sue Rey (she is but not because of feminism but because of bad writing) and claim the movie a rousing critical success while damning any who dare says otherwise.
