  1. As usual Republicans avoid personal responsibility. For more than two decades they have built up a rhetoric of anti-liberalism propaganda thru rightwing radio and Fox News peppering that rhetoric with racial undertones, unabashed jingoism, paranoia, and projection. Thus they created a base of brainwashed people who are effectively trained to react reflexively negatively to anything perceived as liberal-ish and "unamerican." Trump came along and stole much of that base right from under them and put their creation into high gear with choice words and idioms that he knew would resonate with this base. He couldn't have done what he has done without all those years of indoctrination in place. Being a businessman (even a so-so one) Trumped sensed an opportunity and took it. The Republicans have themselves to blame for allowing basically a conman or rather a Pied Piper to waltz in and walk out the front door with their invention.
