This was a major victory for Zelenskyy as he had a chance to network with politicians and business leaders from around the world. At the same time Russia was absent and crying about not being invited. I bet that stung putin and lavrov.

  6. I don't think ideology has anything to do with this war putin started. Some Russians may feel patriotic but it's really all about power. I don't think we in the west understand Russians and how thing work there. The oppression of independent thought has been so pervasive and long standing that it has changed people's outlook. They seem willing to accept any hardship or degradation imposed on them and are proud of the wealth of their leaders.

  7. Invaders have withdrawn in the past so there's no reason to believe it cannot happen again. If someone invades your home and is there for a while do you just eventually accept their presence?

  13. We will never know his real approval ratings but it's probably pretty high. However we know that information is tightly controlled and any opposition or dissent is dealt with harshly. So it's easy to be popular when there's no alternative. I wonder if all the broken pipes and people freezing in their apartments will have any affect on his popularity.
