Between 1870s and 1970s shotguns had been no police weapon in Germany, between 1830s and 1870s some small german states used doublebarrelshotguns, when policemen, up to 1890s , mostly had only a short saber ( similar to british policesabers shown by Matt Easton of ,scholagladiatora' channel) when fighting against poachers, smugglers or other dangerous criminals). After the smoothbore musket era, shotguns had been used by german military either for hunting as meat supply, vor by semireguar auxillaries in rearline.

After the end of smoothbore muzzleloader muskets in 1850s/ 1860s german troops very rarely used shotguns, and mostly not for frontline use. There are pictures of german soldiers using shotguns in both worldwars ( side by side ones), but mostly as hunting weapon for getting food, sometimes by semiregular auxillaries ( guards, police or armed workers), the Forstschutzkomando which was created to cut and plant trees in eastern european forests, some veryxexpensive Drillinge for pilots and Volkssturm ,using everthing what could shoot. Also policeforces of some mostly southern , non prussian states used doublebarrel shotguns between 1830s and 1870s, muzzleloaders with flintlock or percussion. So shotguns had not been seen as police/ military weapon for long time.
