@3746463 : Gewehr mean currently in , Military German ' a fullsize battlerifle, in , Civilian German ' every long firearm . But in older documents it is often unclear, if Gewehr means really a long firearm or in its old sense any kind of weapon. Die Wehr ( not das Wehr, thats a different thing) means the weapon, and Ge- means a lot of. For example: Gesang - a lot of singing, or Geschrei- a lot of loud shouting.
