I am Brittas boyfriend, german . For about 40 years now i read the weapons and military history magazines in german language. Some first information: There is an intressting You Tube channel ,jmantime' . The creator has lots of videos of all kind of military equipment from 19th century to now. There are a number of videos about swiss weaponry , please watch them. The man writes and speaks german words rather terrible, but thats not the problem. The only toppic he doesn' t cover is as far as i know swiss navy ( no joke) , this had been in wwll 5 or 7 patrolboats, each armed with a swiss made 20mm anti tank gun and a twin machinegun in 7,5 x 55 , one of this boats could be still in service.
In 1930 Switzerland noticed , french Ligne Maginot and german Westwall. Also building a border fortification line? They noticed the danger of Germany and Italy, but relayed at first on the not so high number of rather modern or only slightly dated fortifications. But when the danger was clear they started a large fortification program, which ended in 1990s. The lower part of Switzerland was transformed into the light fortified ,Glacis' and the high part into heavy fortified ,Reduit'.
In Switzerland there had been the Army, the unarmed Militärhilfsdienst and local ,Ortswehren' ( town guards?) and a number of armed civilian offices of central governement. The cantons and towns only their police. Armament: Regular Armament, but sounding curious, the weaponry was different, depending on age of armed men. Of course all stored weapons and also civilian owned military style weapons had to be used.
