@TIK... Stalin told Churchill that the Winter of 1943 was the nadir. Manstein's counter-offensive nearly did the Reds in. All reserves had been exhausted. No new ones could be created in the depths of Winter. (With Spring fresh troops solved everything.) Churchill almost swallowed his cigar. Remember that all during late 1942, the Volga link to the oil fields had been broken. Moscow was running out of oil ! Southern Lend Lease was coming out of Iran by way of the Caspian Sea... thence up the Volga until it reached an NKVD relabelling base. The Iranian terminus is still there. You can visit it as a rail road tourist. Video about it is up on YouTube. Search rail road tourism Iran. The video repeatedly emphasises that the rails you're riding supplied Stalin during WWII. Consequently, LendLease aid was piling up down south until the Volga melted. (!)

Stalin told Churchill that the late Spring of 1943 was the low point for the USSR in WWII. Winston almost swallowed his cigar.

Stalin told Churchill 1943 was the nadir of the Red Army. But what did Stalin know. TIK hadn't been born yet.
