The whole success for the Allies depended on the weather and the tides, had the landings not succeeded that day, no real back up was possible for two weeks, by which time all Axis forces available would have been mobilised to the landing area. So yes, an immediate response would have had a real chance of success as the Allied forces in the Normandy area would have been not more than 100,000 men.

The Germans love to put on the airs and graces though for the most part they are just bumbling fools

They found it amazing that the Allies could do anything, probably due to the one sided Nazi propaganda news films promoting German superiority.

A tank or truck is a pretty small target, things like bridges, houses and trains that are bigger would make targets.

German bumbling pretty much won the war for the Allies, attacking the Russian behemoth sapped the German armed forces and their small industry very quickly

Having dinner in a french chateau and treating the whole thing like an eighteenth century gentlemen's game - that was what Hitler tried to stamp out but it was ingrained too deep.

@M Bacon I know of the Wewelsburg that was leased by Himler for its use as an SS training school and Hitler basically took someone's house and gave it to his sister, he gave nothing to his brother or nephews I know of though Dr Goebbels was given a villa which he had knocked down replaced with a much larger villa just as Goring's Carinhall was extended and paid for by Hitler but it was used for official meetings of foreign dignitaries also. So I don't know where you get this Hitler who gave away castles, he was only a politician not a king.

@JohnSmith-qv6hp walking away from Britain was his big mistake, Hitler thought Russia would be an easier target but he knew nothing of Russian weather, its colossal manufacturing ability, the people's determination and the sheer vastness of Russian territory.

@gamerxt333 Actually they were but they didn't tell anyone, a vast manufacturing base was built up secretly by Stalin - that's what caught the Germans out.

Or get the German to drop the Enigma machine and develop something better.

From that angle it does give a passing resemblance, probably because he is very thin at that time.
