The biggest difference between religious Americans in the left and religious Americans in the right is that far more religious Americans in the right want to make the government a Christian theocracy. Additionally, we need to evolve past the idea that the right is more religious just because they say they are in polling. Many of those who claim to be religious on the right are posturing, frankly. The main reason for this is that the Republican party is openly Christian dominated, and often shows open hostility to other religious faiths or atheism. It is a "go along to get along" answer from GOP voters in some measure. Similarly, there are more Democrats who say they support an end to de-facto segregation in our communities than are willing to actually vote for it when it becomes a referendum on occasion.

Trump/Republican legalizing large mags and increasing loopholes on both the manufacture and sale of firearms, plus the pandemic and other factors decreasing both the psychological welfare and the standard of living for many in the US also contributed to another major uptick over the past 3 years It's almost as if it was decided based upon a flawed premise and the result is that the five fundamental freedoms (freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom of assembly, freedom of the press, and the right to petition the government) are all being increasingly infringed upon by the far too unregulated firearms in the hands of individuals with no function whatsoever as part of a militia preserving local self-determination from centralized tyranny.

Since I wasn't wearing a mask in these situations because of a mandate -- because none has ever actually existed for them -- it's unaffected by any mandate and only dictated by my personal desire to limit the risk I present to my friends, those delivering my chosen services and goods and strangers.

  48. Zakaria is true to his beliefs when he advocates for a continuation of neoliberal economics. He's not an ally of the Democratic party when he does it, however. The Democratic party, which is rapidly returning to labor-centric policies, isn't going to jump in to new neoliberalism with both feet the way Zakaria wants. Also, wooing white voters with the damaging economic policies that forced so many off decent wages and into a hand-to-mouth and paycheck-to-paycheck cycle is a fool's errand. White voters, as a group, haven't backed the Democratic presidential candidate since LBJ passed the Civil Rights Act and Voting Rights Act. Democrats wisely listen to Stacey Abrams for strategy, not Grover Norquist era Republicans who had a falling out with the GOP and now [want] the Democrats to move right to accommodate him [them] and his [their] "Lincoln Project" political "rock and roll swindle" kind.
