@StellarBoBellar — That’s just it, a suspension of constitutional rights if they suspect you are not a citizen. Just like under Trumps zero tolerance law, some Americans were deported and unable to get home. Imagine your Hispanic wife (or ?) goes missing while jogging and you find out a few days later that she was arrested, didn’t have her ID on her, and was deported outside of the United States. She can’t get home because she has no passport.

It’s actually a law allowing suspension of rights/laws for a suspected illegal immigrants. In other words if you get stopped, we have laws that say you have rights, you can’t be held without reasonable suspicion of a crime for example. So if you’re a Hispanic legal U.S. Citizen you can’t be detained, searched or forced to provide identification. Now with this law you can, the police can suspend your rights if they suspect you might not be a citizen. So if you’re jogging in your neighborhood and Hispanic, they can stop, demand ID and arrest you, put you in jail, and until you can PROVE you’re a U.S. citizen you have no rights. Remember the U.S. citizens that were deported to Mexico under Trumps zero tolerance policy unable to get home to their families, unable to get into the USA because they had no proof of citizenship.

@positivepatriot1475 have you ever gone for a walk, bike ride or run without your ID? Sure you have as YOU don’t have to prove who you are. Do you need a passport in the USA? No. You have rights. Tell you what, come to Texas, get a tan, and go around without your ID. See how you like getting arrested and deported.

@FreeMan..-._.-._._. — And yet it did, multiple times. One man spent three months in lockup, was deported and only then was he able to call his family to get them to have a lawyer to get him home. The phrase is SUSPENSION OF RIGHTS.

Until you get arrested for being unable to prove you’re an American, deported, then are unable to return because you can’t prove your citizenship. The law suspends your rights.

@FreeMan..-._.-._._. — No. I am aware that there were only a half dozen +/- previous issues, but how do you not see the risk to Hispanic Americans? You’re riding your bike, walking or running and a cop stops you and you don’t have your ID on you. I don’t have to show ID because I have rights as a citizen. The police can ask and I can if I wish tell them who I am. But if you’re Hispanic they can just say he looked like an illegal alien, arrest you, hold you indefinitely, deport you, and you can do nothing but try and get back onto the USA without any documentation. Then let’s look at Abbott, his first impulse in every touchy situation in the past has been to lie, deny, and play it down. Abbott was caught red handed picking illegals up at the boarder, bypassing INS and Border Security/Patrol and shipping them to other states. In other words he CREATED the problem and spent taxpayer money to exacerbate and aggravate the situation. You can’t say this won’t happen because it already has! THIS particular law is rife for abuse.

@holeshothunter5544 — Republicans don’t care. They get the mantra “Hispanics steal our jobs and poison America’s bloodline” over and over from multiple sources. A lie repeated is a lie believed. I’m in Texas, Republicans here in the past… 8-10 years have become incredibly racist. It’s scary as hell! I am hoping that this law will be challenged and overthrown based on constitutional grounds. Everyone recognizes the need for a stronger border, but demonizing a race is wrong as hell.
