It has something to do with the long term relationship between people and the bears in that area. Several studies have been done to see why their interactions are non violent compared to those in in other areas of the country.

Little Kitty — There was a guy in California that they called the bear whisperer who would walk around the local bears and was feeding them, sometimes there would be dozens on his property. Then one day they went looking for him and found pieces of him. A lady near us (Colorado) fed bears, thought they would never hurt her, never bite the hand that fed them. Then one day she too went missing, neighbors and police speculated one day she had no food for the hungry bears so she became the food. They also euthanized the bears in the area too. Wild bears are not pets. The only tame bear is one you have raised since a pet, and even then you never ever go near them when they are hungry, you FEED them first. Edit — Conditioning bears to not be around humans, to be afraid of humans, is good for both species.

Little Kitty — No. No you DON’T want to see her cubs. Cubs + Mama Bear + Human = DEAD HUMAN. And sadly, most often dead bear(s) as it would be euthanized.

@mustang16red87 you can go outside at night, or walking during the day… JUST MAKE NOISE. Talk on the phone, sing softly, drag your feet, whistle, anything that makes noise. Thankfully Bears usually don’t associate humans as food/prey save trash that smells good. Any bear known to or suspected of consuming a human is euthanized, specifically for the reason that bears are smart, those that eat one, eat others as man becomes a food/prey source. Sadly many in the area put out food for bears, which IMHO, is Darwin’s Theory at work.

@supportyourtroopsathletes6460 — True, however evidently in NC where this is, exists a unique situation. The bears there aren’t as aggressive as western bears throughout Colorado to Alaska. They have posted a few links to studies on this “phenomenon” of human/bear peaceful coexistence. This guy (channel owner) even leaves food out for them, looked like a potato to me but I could be wrong. I, like many, thought this to be insanity... however the links seem legit, and there does seem to be some merit to the non-aggressive bears and the common interaction with humans in the area. I mean if you think about it... this gentleman is filming from a bench on his porch mere feet away from a bear and her cubs. That alone is very different from the bears in our area.

We get it, bears and humans have a unique relationship in NC. But they are still bears, yea clearly don’t see you as a threat. They seem to have lost their fear of humans. But… they are still bears.

You put FOOD on the railing for BEARS standing mere feet away. We had a neighbor in Colorado who did that too… until she walked out her front door without and didn’t have food put out. So the friendly bears ate her. I get it, you think they are friendly because they haven’t attacked when they had the chance. Could you please test your theory by petting one of her Cubs?

My brothers neighbor was found dead, killed by bears. She liked to feed them, they had grown accustomed to her, they came for snacks. One day she had none, and they associated her with food. To say black bears are pussycats is idiocy. To feed them is idiocy. To encourage their lack of fear of man is idiocy.

@jacquelineithell307 — True, so very adorable. Bears have great memories, these Cubs will be coming to this house looking for food long after it’s been resold. Or, like one of my neighbors in Colorado, she also thought they are adorable, she’d leave treats for them. Then one day she didn’t have treats as she was just getting her mail, so they ate her.

@rhett7716 — Actually, he does leave treats, there are several videos where he puts something on the railing, that the bear eats. Looks like it might have been a potato 🥔 , a pear 🍐 or something, I couldn’t quite make it out. I get where you and he are coming from, I think, there evidently has been studies done on the human-bear interactions around Asheville, and I searched for ‘Asheville bear attacks’ and only found one that was meant to be humorous. That is seriously sweet and wonderful. Bears in that region may indeed have accepted humans as ‘friendly neighbors,’ and are not threatened by them… but I do not see that a bear is THAT different between Colorado and NC. Around here being that close to a mother bear with Cubs can end badly.

@firstamendmenttshirt4768 --- Thanks, but no. I am a firm believer in distance between me and any bear. To the channel's credit, Asheville NC bears according to studies, having lived in close proximity since birth, are 'kind of' like a bear raised since they were a cub. They are kinda/sorta/maybe acclimated to humans, and don't view them as either threat or prey. If you are a fan of this channel, watch a few and look for where he has posted links in the comments about the studies done in that area on the bear/human relationships being very different than the rest of the country.

@gayatrin9983 — With respect, they kinda have. There are orphaned bears who were raised from cubs, that are very tame and friendly, gentle and playful even. But wild bears?! That’s a ticking time bomb. I get it, bears and cubs are cute looking to us well intentioned and friendly humans, that’s called personification. But I feel for his neighbors who might react differently and not have food. That bear and her cubs have lost their fear of humans, and worse may associate humans with food thanks to him.

Would it do any good to remind you of the numerous people who have fed bears, or put food out for bears only to be eaten by the bears when no food was out? Bears see pumpkins 🎃 eat pumpkins, think of food when they see your house. Then when there are no pumpkins 🎃 they see you 👨🏼‍🦳and think food. 🍑🥭🍍🥥🥦🍆🍅🥝🥬🥒🌶🌽🥕

@PatrickConley yes, you could see her walking away, what 30 feet away? This one had 3 Cubs, Simone had 2, so you’re being visited by multiple bears, who come there looking for food. You appear (I don’t know) to be on the porch with them. I get the Asheville NC areas bears do seem to be very docile. But I live in Colorado, where they also seem to be. You are making those bears associate you with the food that you leave out for them. Just know that if you are ever attacked, those kind bears will be euthanized.

@gayatrin9983 — Foolish in Colorado or anywhere in the northwestern states, yes. But you say never, but there have been many bears raised in captivity from Cubs and they actually can be amazingly friendly. One of the studies he (this channel) posted had a link to another which stated as the bears in this area have been raised around humans from birth, they have become acclimated to them, seeing them as neither prey or food. This ‘could’ be a good thing… or not. 🤣

Here’s one snippet I found: “Bears have incredible long-term memory will revisit places where they have found food, even months or years later. Bears that are frequently fed, either directly or indirectly through bird feeders or garbage, may completely lose their fear of people. If a bear then behaves in a way that is a threat to public safety it may be euthanized.” What I remember was a study of bears wearing bear trackers where they overlaid many years of bear paths, and marked the path “previous kill,” “Berries,” “farm,’ etc., different food sources. So you may be correct in that it might not be “decades” as they live about 25 years in the wild. I’ll correct my post. But your saying I’m full of false information is uncalled for, I know of what I speak.
