@plumbthumbs9584 unironically that is my point. You think being able to make due with less is disadvantage but he clearly proved his value to this man. When a society is full of self sustaining ppl they are resilient. If that same incident happened in most of the us he'd have been out a day and $500+.

I agree life expectancy is a good measure for economic and social successes. As far as I know the average life expectancy of the USA is going down and has been for a little while. While I wouldn't rather live in Russia there are arguments for why their economy could be considered more stable. We are a "service" economy after all.

@EconLessons what more can the world do to Russia/ussr that hasn't been done already? The world took many of its most productive regions and established new countries. They are cut off of swift and under stricter sanctions than any other country. It may not be a high quality life but its stable. All those natural resources create an economic base for Russia. It's no coincidence that this past month or so multiple refiners were attacked. The stability is in their resilience. I think the us economy is still messed up from 08,09. Which was purposely set off to make homes more affordable for more ppl. Since then we've been under the full mmt and social governance. Civil War and succession has been spoken about in the US as Russia gains control of more territories and gains influence. Since 9/11 the USA has seemed like a pretty unstable place IMO.
