This is the most poignant and factual exposition of contemporary American failings that I have EVER heard! Thank you for sharing and I wish you could share the FDR source.

Thankyou, thankyou and thankyou. I truly feel like FDR is alive somewhere in a piece of my own heart! The salt-of-the-Earth objective and humanitarian wisdom FDR projects is the missing piece of our contemporary national politics. America today is ALL business with no human heart or soul. America has become the Frankenstein monster of megalomaniacal human devising.

Thom, I totally share your admiration for FDR and the early Democratic Party. However, I just cannot reconcile your continued allegiance to our current 2-party system and your apparent admiration for the current Democratic Party. Is it just the "lesser of two evils" thing? I would love to hear one of your "deep dive" harangues in to our specious two-party system as compared to the European Parliamentary model.

The fact that the Democratic Party does not and cannot convey the wisdom expressed in those FDR quotes is because they are equally complicit in the fallacies and falsities of our contemporary political/economic culture. FDR was wise, observant and humanitarian in spite of his aristocratic roots. He was able to see the OBJECTIVE good sense of it all. The reptiles that inhabit Capitol Hill today do not possess that type of objective vision or human compassion, or intellectual depth. From my perspective they are "Exhibit A" for the dumbing-down of the American Mind.

Wow! that FDR quote was spot on! I am frightened and confused by the fact that so many "ever-day" people don't realize how badly they have been "had"! I am equally confused by the fact that our "deciders" in Washington don't seem to realize that a vibrant, equitable economy is good for the NATION (which they profess to love) itself, as well as for themselves. Is BLIND GREED the source of their apparent myopia? I just don't get it.
