As devastating as our dependence on fossil fuel is, it should also be noted that the solar and wind industries require an immense amount of fossil fuels and rare-earth minerals to produce, and they need to be replaced about every 20 years.They are not the "answer" but merely a partial stop-gap. The "elephant in the room", that few plutocrats or politicians care to discuss, is that the Earth now has 4 times more inhabitants than it can support. Our resultant ever-increasing GDP is their consistent pride. Ironically, the GDP is also a measure of how fast humans are gobbling the "life" right out of the Earth.

  2. It is a curious thing that the man-made erosion of American democracy closely parallels the man-made defilement of the Earth. It is also curious to note that it has been a relatively small cadre of rich and powerful men that have orchestrated both of these catastrophes. Greed overwhelms wisdom and common sense at every opportunity. We citizens of the 21st century are merely the most recent iteration of that historic truism.
