Tbf, rather than saying he "finally got around" to rescuing them, it sounded like even sailing up to the island was difficult, so it was a feat just to get an effective rescue to the island at all. There's nothing to say that the guy was just dawdling around in his rescue attempts. He was only part of the last rescue attempt. And it was the French gov who delayed the rescue for so many yrs in the first place by rejecting rescue for around a decade. Still agree that the island should've been named after the ppl who were living there, tho.
