  2. It’s odd to phrase it that way IMO. Why like or dislike it? This is just a trade-off to consider. If read before write is a common access pattern in your application, I agree that this is the wrong DB architecture for you. But other applications have different requirements and need to optimize for different things. There is no right or wrong answer here in general. It all depends on context. Being opinionated about tech in this way is a hallmark of a junior engineer IMO.
