Not really. They are fairly easy to track and take out - the return from its engine is huge. They are more or less seen as a "stealth Cesna". Not exactly something to fear. Or to put it the other way around, they are about 1000 times more visible then F-22.

Nah, total failure in Ukraine. These things cannot get close to air defenses. Same as its bigger Russian cousin. Russia actually has about 2x as many TB2s as Ukraine and with stronger engines and much bigger payload. So what. Game changer is newest Russian and American family of heavy stealth drones. These bad boys travel just a bit sub sonic and can carry 10x payload of TB2 plus are at least 10x more stealthy.

TB2 / Javelins and NLAWS did little in Ukraine. Almost nothing. Artillery, as usual, is king. TB2s especially showed up poorly. Russians cannot do "mass envelopment" with tanks as they simply luck numbers to do such operation, not b/c they are afraid of totally ineffective TB2 (these things cannot get close to air defenses as they are such easy pray). Russians have only 70k deployed in Ukraine. That is it. 70k. This is hardly enough to keep control of currently held territory. This leaves very few people to attack. Hence Izium front with over 10k Russians is such a big, huge deal.

@Ukraineaissance2014 CNN... I guess US lies. Russia deployed 78 BTGs each has at most 1000 men. Add to it militia forces of around 70k. Ukraine deployed about 300k out of total of 500k+.

@buddermonger2000 Nah, they have well supported tanks in the cities, complete with infantry, drones and artillery support. If they did not they would not take a city. Besides, there are 100s of videos clearly illustrating standard "tank in a city" stuff. Heck, you can even see BTR hit a mine, gets whacked by RPG afterwards, infantry covers a tank that manages to recover it. BTR will need some major work after a mine and RPG hit, but is not in such a bad shape overall. Other videos showing BTR covering a squad while the cross a street to storm a building. Lots of others. Overall Russians and their allies did well in the cities - they have not taken huge losses - they used artillery to take out large number of Ukrainians without too much sweat.

@ianmills9266 Technically you are right - Russians did employ it during the first 3 days when they moved with lighting speed. Problem is that to continue moving they would need forces 10x greater. But their forces were ... tiny (and still are). In other words we no longer have multi million armies. At least for time being.

TB2 failed miserably in Ukraine. It is simply 20+ year old US tech good for terrorist smashing or attacking low level adversaries. At peer conflict it is simply too easy pray for air defenses.

Zero had no armor. It sacrificed everything for some limited ability to do aerobatics. This turned into its major weakness. Once Americans figured it out - Zeros were goner. I.e. it cut a LOT of corners - and once enemy figured these out they smashed it. Tb2 is not really a legend anymore - it got smashed bad in Russia/ Ukraine. No surprise.

@uncletimo6059 Drones like Tb2 do not work too well against Russia. They simply are easy to kill and Russia has too many AA assets. They are not stealth so rather easy to see on radar especially with modern computer anti clout systems I.E. computer in radar system will pick up even tiny target using AI.
2
@uncletimo6059 I live in reality - you live in the world of these songs. Where are these destroyed tanks oh where are they. In your songs. That is where they are. Shall we sing again, the song of a drone - the tank slayer? Lets sing along!

Not really. This is why US and others are sending much more expensive systems. NLAW / Javelin are last resort weapons. All nice and stuff but no match for tanks and artillery. TB2 was great against terrorists and Armenia - heck even quickly moving Russian units in the beginning. But now? Not much use - they have zero chance vs. air defenses. If they fly low they are easy pray for heavy MGs and shoulder fired missiles due to their very low speed. If they fly high they get owned by longer ranged systems.

Both US and Russia have these drones in development.
1
Nah, they have shown huge value in Ukraine. Sales of MBTs are hot. Ukraine has shown that going heavy is they way, i.e. whole units made up of just tanks and APCs.

@nemesisfootball119 LMAO AZ did it all with overwhelming artillery, tank and number of soldiers. TB2 got just some publicity. It did not account for major "action". In Russia it failed miserably as it is just a "target" - of no more value then any observation drone.
1
Yeah, what they do not tell you that these air defense systems owned Tb2. They finally got rid of them by bribing people and getting intelligence when these systems were on the move. Otherwise Tb2 could not do squat. Drone power house is China and US. Russia is a bit behind, they have only a bit better drones then TB2 in service and a lot of tiny drones. They are only building real drones as experiments.
1
Don't over estimate the optics. The cannot see much from 100km due to dirt in atmosphere. This is why TB2s fly low for observation mission - when you see videos of artillery strikes you see them from a drone just above, not 100km away.

@Bagginsess How can you hide in a forest from a plane? How?
1
@orlock20 What ambushes and what supply lines. Russians have moved out of Kiev area over a month ago. In case you did not know.

@TheTrinquility Do you know how many drones they shot down???!!! Yes, its unfair to say air defenses are invincible. Mistakes happen. Intelligence happens. Etc. But BT2 drone against well placed air defenses is ... like in Libya ... a sitting duck. We can clearly see it now in Russia vs. Ukraine conflict, air defenses wipe the table with these things. The main problem with Tb2 is that it is old tech and not meant for at peer conflicts of today. It is rather big and slow. It is easily seen even from far away by any AA system and without any defensive capability its like 90% +++ kill probability from single missile. This is why drones of the future will be far more stealthy so they cannot be easily seen and / or they will be made in masses super cheap.

@_RTX2060SUPER_ Sure I can - its based on the old US drone - the very first combat drone Turkey had. Thus its 20 plus year old tech. As for drownings - did you hear any TB2 news from Ukraine lately? Any success with its use from its giant propaganda machine? I mean they are advancing on Moscow without ... TB2? How many Tb2s they had - 100 plus - where are they now???
1
@_RTX2060SUPER_ easy - see wiki https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baykar_Bayraktar_TB2 as you can see they admit to the # of drones. TB2 is a very simple drone, this is why they can make few dozen a month. Turkey purchased US made drones all the way in 1996. and TB2 work really took off in 2007.
