  1. Having commodities makes bank under globalization and the rules based international order. That’s not the norm. For much of history, having commodities often meant being colonized. For much of history, the ones who made bank were the ones who controlled the trade routes. E.g., the Ottoman Empire got rich off of the Europeans’ craving for tea and spices. Russian oil, gas, and other commodities go out to the world through waters that are controlled by the Europeans. We’ll see who ends up making bank.
