  1. The US is what keeps the energy to China on. To shut down the energy to China, the US has to do… nothing. If the US simply announces that it is no longer going to protect vessels carrying energy to China, dozens of countries and hundreds of non-state actors will gleefully start grabbing those cargoes. China’s critical energy lifelines will die a death of ten thousand cuts by ten thousand different opportunists, none of which will be connected to the US government. “Protect my trade for free, or else I’ll nuke you!” I don’t think even Xi Jinping is dumb enough to think that that is a viable strategy.
