  1. Wife's student loan just started. And we are going to start paying it off. Fortunately we are still well within our household budget. There are 3-4 things that we can easily let go to make up lost budget before even thinking of selling our house.

You have no idea what the past years were for me and my family and what our "plan" was during a non-accumulating interest student loan period. Well let me tell you for the fun of it, in 2.5-3 years: paid off 3 vehicles (2 brand new), 2 credit card debts at $8K, and one other student loan at $10K. All the while supporting two kids with daycare and paying for after school activities. Still saving money. Fast forward today: Besides a mortgage (5% rate), we only have her student loan at a trivial $20K to pay off. No other debts. And even more money left over for savings. But go on ahead and feel mighty about yourself.

  11. If you are a single, don't plan to marry or have kids, AND simple as you say...then just get a 800-900 sqft house. You'll be fine.
