  3. One of the problems of Afghanistan was the US government kept changing enemies. First it was Saddam, then it was the Mujahideen, then the Taliban then Al-Qaeda, then ISIS. Holy Cow no wonder the American public gave up. There was no single common enemy to follow and fight against.

  4. Democracy in Afghanistan: Afghanistan has been, is and will always be a backwater shithole country. It's made up of tribes with individual leaders who do not trust one another. They do not have a sense of nation or commonality. Add communist China to the list of empires that have tried and failed to dominate Afghanistan.

  6. The problem with the First Gulf War was the same thing as WWI, the allies didn't go far enough and finish the job. Instead it ended up like The Bay of Pigs where the United States encouraged people to rebel against the government and then drop support like a hot potato. Which led to a second war.
