  1. When I was in school, history was all about dates and rote. I was always thinking that there has to be more to it than that. Why did those things happen? But that wasn't in the syllabus, so we weren't taught it. I learned on my own and glad I did.

  2. The value of history is to be able to predict the future as history has a habit of repeating itself.

  3. If Hollywood looked at history, then they would find a never ending supply of great stories and scripts instead of the annoying dribble that they try to pass off as entertainment now. They can't even come up with original stories. Half the movies today are lousy rewrites of past great movies and sequels.

When I went to school (I graduated high school in 1971): - World history stopped at the end of WWII. - Asians did not exist as there was no history of them. - Africa was just a bunch of European colonies made up of backward, uneducated, tribes living in huts half naked and dancing around a fire. - Americans won every war. - There was no history between the fall of the Roman Empire and the Middle ages.
