Old oil builds up contaminants and moisture which break down oil quality. Contaminants clog oil passages decreasing lubrication to critical areas of the engine. If you drive short distances or not much, condensation builds up in crankcase leading to corrosion of engine parts and saturating the quality and viscosity of your engine oil. Yes, frequent oil changes are cheap insurance of a well maintained engine. Yes, dealers are out to separate you from money in your wallet. But, I feel having your engine oil changed often is one exception. Educated consumers can get only the services they need.
