  1. Just a comment on the three position safety. I think it is more important for use with a bayonet. Most of the actions we associate with bayonet charges are two position safeties like the Enfield and the Mosin but the important feature is that it locks the bolt closed. A necessity for using a bayo without the breech popping open. The main advantage of a three position safety is the ejection of unfired rounds with more confidence that the gun can't go off. Misplaced confidence IMO if the firing pin has broken so that the safety has no effect on it.
