The wonderful Dr Goldner offers free advice about her protocol every Wednesday at 12:30pm Pacific in a live podcast. I have been watching her for a long time. She is also very inspirational in mental health matters, after all, it's all connected. I'm glad you appreciate her!! I have been drinking Dr Goldner's smoothie for over 1 1/2 years, not all of it in one day, more like 2 days, as a form of health maintenance. I add almond milk and sometimes PB2, even though it has a lot of Omega 6. I have one autoimmune disease and hope to prevent more. Greetings from Tiger Mtn! :-)

@streetlights111 As an older person I look back on my life and see so many different paths that I could have taken, had I known about them. I am always curious and I want to find out things. However, I studied architecture and never did much with it, esp after moving to the US where the field was no longer imaginative. My point though, get done with what's ahead of you and however you can accomplish this part of your education. Then take a sufficiently long break and re-evaluate, find out what really interests you, maybe you even have passions that are burried deeply under all your worries. Look forward to exploring bits of what matters most to you once you have enough room in your head to move on to your next adventure :-) . Much <3 - btw, you express yourself very well! PS. don't only look under the streetlights just because that is where you can see what's there ;-)

Mister Roger's Neighborhood.......

OMG, I have so much to say about this.... You put your finger on a hot button here, one that those who grew up in this country - and never left it - are rarely aware of: the toxic side of American "positivity" culture. There are toxic elements in every culture, obviously, but I never experienced the effects of unquestioned (fake) positivity until I moved to this country over 40 years ago. It has actually become more damaging over time, and social media, where real emotions are even more masked or even faked in a masterful manner, have let this phenomenon grow exponentially. I have a feeling that you and your brother-in-law can work through this. It takes time and the insight that BOTH of you brought this on - with the mindset that was available to you at the time. You have learnt valuable lessons, you have forgiven him (and yourself), maybe he has too..... I wish you both ALL THE BEST. My heart hurts for you both a little 🙂❤💕

You need some hummus as a dip with the carrots. Yummy!! Happy trails :-) . Be safe <3
6
I think it is theoretically possible to reverse some of the damage -- whether we can achieve that outcome is not so clear. The earth is resilient. Restorative agriculture can make the soil healthy again and reducing animal consumption would repurpose their food resources to the needs of people (and do away with cruelty towards animals). Can it happen? I wish.

@sat1241 Oh, I LOVE this haiku <3
5
Great message, Dr Goobie :-) -- you rock :-) <3
5
That sounds like just what the doctor ordered :-) - in the best way possible!
5
So, did you recycle the box and the plastic? ..... Goobie, watching you makes me sad these days. I feel like you have trapped yourself in a bubble that is restricting you from experiencing things that can give you hope and purpose. I don't want to expand on this because it would sound like criticism - that is sadly the downside of this form of communication. I have reached an age where I look back more often than I used to, and I see a lot of missed opportunities that I was not aware of when I was younger and busy just living my life. For you, I see many opportunities to engage in helping the environment, the animals, birds, insects.... You studied biology, so that is a place where you have a strong connection - your forest explorations are a testament to that, obviously. Nature needs your help. There are volunteer groups that work in those areas. You would meet like-minded people. You and your wife could work together..... Sending love from Tiger Mountain <3

@old-schoolj1405 My parents died many years ago -- and they did not chose to have me. Regarding the burden - you cannot rely on your kids to take care of you - and if I had kids, I would not expect that from them. I would not want to be a burden. That's what I tried to convey in my messager.
4
I guess "free will" is a misnomer. Obviously, this has to be thought of within realistic parameters. The idea of complete choice, complete control is a ridiculous concept IMO. That cannot happen and is an unrealistic thought experiment that leads to fatalism. However, you do end up at crossroads all the time and then you choose depending on the parameters you have selected as guidelines - easy, hard, compassionate, don't care, helpful, passive..... Those are choices that can actually be altered by more info that can at different times sway you one way or another. But choices you make, freely. Good ones and not so good ones.
4
Agree. People in the "no free will" camp in these comments seem to be stuck in a static, unflexible state of being. However, in reality, everything has influence on everything else - that is how as a mechanism we are one - and it changes all the time, as does our capacity to react (by choosing a direction). Not whether we can, but how (we follow a goal, or mindset).

PS. This just arrived in my subscriptions: "Three Directions of Forgiveness | Guided Meditation with Jack Kornfield" -- 9 minutes well spent, and a reflection on an age-old problem!! :-) - link below unless deleted by YT.

Happy Birthday! <3 and Hugs for your puppy :-) 🐕
4
@convertedGuardian I have been WFPB for almost 9 years - congrats on your choice, we need you :-) .
3
Yes, it feels good to know there are like-minded people close by :-) . Hello, neighbor :-)
3
He did catch Dr. Goldner's lecture during the conference and spoke highly of her. He also demonstrated how to make her smoothie. I watch her every Wednesday, she is so inspiring.
3
Yep. Tears, and I don't know why. :,-) <3

"Vegan" is not a term that suggests healthy eating per se. As vegan you simply cut out animal products. But then you have to replace them with the nutrients you would have received from these animal products. Living a whole food plant based lifetyle corrects the mistakes that junk food vegans make by not understanding the need for proper nutrition. Most of the processed vegan foods are unhealthy. Dr Goobie mentioned in this talk that his plant based patients looked healthier and healed better. Hopefully you will keep listening and get to find out where you went wrong as a 'vegan". Best wishes 🙂

Have you looked around recently and acknowledged how broken families are these days? What if you turn out to be a burden to your kids? How does that feel? (senior, no kids)

Greetings from Tiger Mountain! I drank my green smoothie while watching your video. Here's an important tip: you will not gain any nutritional benefit (Omega 3) from the flax seeds unless they are consumed freshly ground. I recommend to add a good amount of flax seeds to your smoothie since you already have enough fiber in your granola, The Vitamix will grind up the flax for you, they disappear in the mix. ENJOY! 🙂 , I applaud all your healthy choices!
3
Someone added very detailed time stamps in a comment above.
3
WARNING: I watch many cooking shows and usually there is a warning, not to blend hot ingredients unless you have a high speed blender (Vitamix or Blendtec). Typicall;y they suggest to pour small amounts into the regular type blender to give the hot soup room to expand. If you fill the container too much, it may explode, blow the lid and cover you in hot liquid.
3
Thought of you as I was eating some black caps and thimbleberries earlier today on our property. I love noticing the missing leaves that the deer ate as they passed through. I enjoyed the tale of the waterbugs. Wonder how long they live, didn't expect them to hibernate....
2
Steak does not taste good, the sauce and spices make it edible. You can use those ingredients to spice veggies - if that's what you crave.
2
Congrats!! I'm Type 1 (auto-immune issue) and on a low fat, whole food plant-based diet dropped my basal insulin from 46 u/day to currently 12. WFPB for 9 years now :-) with better control overall. It works for anyone who has the will to do it.
2
Are you avoiding soy because of an allergy or due to misleaading information? Without soy, getting the nutrients you need is juat a little more difficult and I would not recommend avoiding soy unless you have to. There are many channels by docs (MDs) and chefs that are whole food plant based . It takes a while to sort things out, but if you follow 21 day meal plans that are freely available at no cost, they will give you a good basis for accomplishing this switch. I started with info by Dr Fuhrman 9 years ago.... I can also recommend Dr Laurie Marbas -- on her channel she speaks daily to the details of switching to a plant-based diet, with emphasis on weight loss, based on her experience with her patients.
2
Ahhhh......... Never mind.
2
How much fun is it to have to deal with people's egos and excuses on a daily basis as your job? Ok - rhetorical question.... 🙂

@GoobieAndDoobie Alan Watts is a fascinating man and a pleasure to listen to. He represents the freedom to explore - a perfect example of the spirit in which I grew up as a teen. Love mattered a lot then, more than I was able to understand. I have a hard time making sense of the (western) world these days. I agree with everything you said. I will continue working on establishing a wildflower meadow to give back to nature. :-) ❤ from Tiger Mtn.
2
That would be a family decision IMO. It's his wife's brother, after all, she has a say in the matter. Families are strange creatures, sadly. But I too hope for a reconciliation.
2
You need to grind the flax seeds for salads etc to get to the Omega 3. Hope you know that :-). <3 best wishes :-)
2
@GM4ThePeople I speak and understand your language. I have looked at the devastating effects of misguided nutrition for the past 8 years, beginning with my own health issues. I have made some life-changing discoveries... My comment was directed personally at Dr. Goobie, whose posts I studied and interpreted with interest and I got more and more encouraged believing that he has had similar revelations about the true nature of our system of sick-care. By judging his food choices, I think he may have a good sense of what is the cause of this major dilemma. Yet, I was not sure whether he was aware of how divisive this topic is. I share your concern. Best wishes!
2
So many people shedding happy tears unexpectedly :,-) <3 incl me.
2
Oh, I guess that photo was of Mt Rainier at the end - I was expecting some lavaly words for nearby Rainer from the air ;-) .
2
Yes, provided you use a Vitamix or Blendtec. I have used both for this smoothie for years!
2
@GoobieAndDoobie Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn is against smoothies because chewing is an integral part of digestion. However, his biggest concern is his dietary protocol that has healed heart patients and opened up their arteries. I still drink my green smoothie every day though. 🙂
2
@GoobieAndDoobie A lot of people will trust your judgement. Pls be careful w your advice and consult some trusted sources first. Greetings from Tiger Mountain 🙂
2
@marinaBSNRN Oh I didn't expect an apology - I just wanted your message to make sense because it is an important one. Inflammation can be so easily reversed or at least reduced by eliminating foods that cause this inflammation!
2
Add enough fruit, frozen works best, and you won't taste the kale. Add flax seeds to the smoothie as well (Omega 3s are so healing!).
2
Correct. It is necessary to use a strong blender to grind up the flax seeds while making the smoothie. Otherwise, prior to making the smoothie grind the flax seeds in a designated coffee grinder.
2
Diane, I agree. Even though I have been aware of a lot of the destructive habits of modern civilization, I am constantly learning more, including ways to fix our situation. My latest insight: Birds rely on particular native larvae species to feed their young, and the insects producing those larvae need certain native plants to live on. Those native plants are increasingly ripped out due to land used for other things or because the native plants are not pretty enough. Those insects have kept us alive too, by pollinating our crops. I didn't know about the specific needs to keep this chain of life going. I am in the process of planting wild meadows on our property in recognition of this problem. We all can do something. (I also don't eat meat; I've done fine for the past 9 years on plant protein.)
1
That's too broad of a brush. There are lots of good people somewhere. Look around your neighborhood, maybe in your family. You won't find them online because there's too much pretense. It's not "society's" fault that things have gone sideways, but forces in society that put money and appearances ahead of substance, truth, and kindness. Be who you are looking for :-).

Nutrition Facts; Dr. Greger
1
Why on earth would he invest all this time in misleading people?
1
Congratulations!! That's not easy. Hope you stick with it :-)
1
I'm so glad you found the perfect way to convey your message - by just being true to yourself. What you have to say is so important - and I agree with most of what you conveyed today. THANK YOU! ---- BTW, I went plant-based 9 years ago as well. Greetings from Tiger Mountain. 😊
1
@extra-turtle A good place for you to investigate these docs and others is a YT channel created by Chef AJ. When the pandemic began, everybody had lots of time. Every day she presented plant-based doctors who presented info and answered questions on any topic of their chosing. She only recently changed the focus of her channel, but all these presentations are archived on her channel "Chef AJ". Also, look at Dr. Barnard's channel out of Washington DC,; they present plant-based health topics several times a week, "Physicians Committee". Hope this helps you locate information to help you find what you are looking for. One thing that is very noticable -- all the docs that are featured on these channels are very happy to be able to actually help their patients get healthy and not just manage their symptoms. 🙂
1
@peterjackson4623 Not difficult once you realize this is one of the few areas in medicine where you get to talk to and heal your patients. I listen to these doctors a lot on YT and they are happy with their choices. They get to be healers.
1
If you use a Vitamix or Blendtec, you can use whole seeds, I have done this for years :-) . They get pulverized.
1
He already said that it is dangerous.
1
Are you by any chance with Kaiser Permanente?
1
Type 2 diabetes is reversible. There are many plant-based docs on YT who can help. I was with Mastering Diabetes for a year and now have much better control of my Type 1 diabetes. Stinging pain in my feet is 95% gone, not sure what occasionally triggers the remaining 5%. Neuropathy result is similar.
1
So touching and so perfectly 'you'. 🙂 :,-) <3 🕊
1
Happy New Year Dr GoobieDoo - we need more love songs, this one is a good start ♥🤍♥ 🕊☮🕊☮🕊♥🤍♥🌱
1
Maybe I should hang onto our record player that works by turning a handle!! We lost power for a full week!! This time, instead of finding the old records, I went out and started weeding invasive plants along our driveway for hours on end :-) !
1
Looks like you both got lucky. On Tiger Mtn we had no power for a week and no internet for 10 days..... Was able to do a lot of yard work to keep warm :-) . We have a woodstove, running water and friendly neighbors with generators who recharged our large power battery for flashlights and phones. Internet came back yesterday :-) . Rediscovered our old transistor radio late in the game but our taste in music is not much represented nowadays....
1
It is common kowledge now that fish are contaminated with toxins - or fed a species inappropriate diet in fish farms. I have even heard a recommendation to feed less fish to cats! One recommendedation for humans by a plant based doc was to eat fish lower in the food chain, i.e. smaller fish, if you have to eat fish.....
1
@shane7241 You are very welcome :-) . I have been looking at plant based nutrition for the past 9 years. I would recommend that you look at whole food plant based channels for ideas. Vegan channels can be less health- conscious. Vegans avoid animal products, but often do not replace them with specifically healthy choices. It takes a while to figure this out. You might like a plant based channel called "Simnett Nutrition". He has good, healthy, straightforward suggestions and good cooking demos.
1
As represenative of the salties you are not leaving a good impression, sorry.
1
Look at Lifestyle Medicine, it is a growing field and many disappointed doctors get back to what they hoped to be doing: healing people, working with the patient to remove the cause of disease instead of managing disease!. <3
1
Remember, they had no electricity. "Lights out" happened at sunset.....
1
Please consider Lifestyle Medicine. We (patients) need your skills. It is a growing field.
1
@g_9443 You should have kept watching - Doobie learned from Eckhardt Tolle to respect Jesus - as any morally advanced, ethical person should. Peace 🙂
1
@GoobieAndDoobie I live 10 min from the hatchery (for 36 years) and I have never stopped there. It was tough to watch this spectacle and in fact I had to skip to the end. Been WFPB for 9 years now, vegetarian for 24 years before that....... BTW, we are putting in a meadow on our property and during research I found out that some insects depend on specific wildflowers to live. Wildflowers are not that easy to find here any more. Apparently, the monarch butterfly is 99% extinct in California because it cannot find milkweed plants. Please look into this and maybe talk about it. Also, last year I found out bad news about our beloved Western Red Cedars in our state - ironically called the tree of life......
1
The "7 generations" way of planning ahead is a very rational and all-encompassing way of thinking by the "leavers"!
1
@TheSpiralZero It may have been written down at that particular time (that is disputed as well) but the article I read said it was based on ancient wisdom etc, which rings true to me. You believe what suits your mindset :-) .... there is no proof....
1
I don't think that fear-mongering holds any answers. Already I am concerned about the lack of valid solutions. We don't need more fear.
1
Marina, I assume you mean inflammation? Inflammation is a culprit in many chronic diseases.....
1
@Texasgirlinacrazyworld You are making good points, and I was referring to what you describe by saying things have gone "sideways". However, I hope to be bucking the trend by seeing some positive instead of mostly negative. Best wishes to you and the OP.
1
OK, you are referring to one path of many :-) .
1
Chill. If you didn't get this, do some thinking. If you're a habitual nay-sayer, same, and get some help.
1
Coconut oil contains saturated fat. :-( - Just FYI, in case you overlooked that.
1
@Smokeycam1 At 15:30 he says he switched to WFPB after the heart attack. He looked deeper and another specialist convinced him to go more carnivore. He was insulin resitant. Insulin resistance can be traced back to fat molecules blocking the cells that would absorb the carbs. Insulin cannot access these cells anymore, thus insulin resistance. This scenario is not taught in typical med schools, even though the mechanics have been known for decades. Harvard studies make this clear. Anyway, he was plant based only briefly, after his heart attack....
1
@Smokeycam1 Interesting. I'll check this out.
1
..... as a reaction to what you consume for breakfast?
1
@GoobieAndDoobie Interesting. I was thinking you'd benefit from Buddhist wisdom. Mingyor Rinpoche suffered from anxiety as a child. His father, a Buddhist teacher himself, suggested that he make friends with his anxiety. He followed that advice and now passes it on in his own teaching. It is a simple concept but runs deep, akin to what you are aiming to do. I was revisiting his teachings last night :-) . Much love to you from Tiger Mtn. where I am surrounded daily by the lushest green of tall trees and dense shrubs. PS we have discovered MERLIN Bird ID several weeks ago. Do you use it? It is so much fun!
1
You'll never know the answer because some folks tolerate the impact of toxicity in food better than others. Depends on all factors of your lifestyle choices. If you eat organic veggies along with processed meat e.g., you will increase inflammation in your body and suffer the consequences. Inflammation is often at the crux of the matter.
1
To some degree, if you're a (human) sheep. And yet, at some point you came to be that sheep. And you can choose to stop that behavior once you realize it does not serve you well. Happens to some people, doesn't it? Pavlov set up the conditions for the dogs' behavior by making them hungry. If the dog is not hungry or doesn't like what is being offered (onion), they would choose to not eat it. Science experiments always work towards predictable outcomes. Life throws you curveballs and that's where it gets interesting.
1
You made it sound as if he suffered the heart attack WHILE on a WFPB diet. I assume, judging by the video title, that he switched from a SAD diet to WFPB. :-)
1
"Slowly you find yourself creating a character".... Trouble is that you are being shaped by those who influence you beginning in childhood - parents, teachers, peers.... I guess that is where a lot of the conflicts muddy the waters regarding self-doubt and which one is my truth, my path to choose..... Just a thought.... (PS. Dr Bruce Lipton has a lot to say about that. )
1
I was concerned as well, but figured they can ask the groomer at Doobie's next appointment.
1
Kaiser also promotes plant based care - they have an official PDF that supports it. In reality, I have yet to find a plant-based doc near me (Seattle area) in their system.
1
Hello Dr Goobie, thank you for voicing your thoughts and teaching so many people on how to cope with the drawbacks of our new reality. As an older person, I would encourage you to investigate how people used to live healthier lives in the last century without all those abominations like fast food, processed food and social media. All that information is readily available, but you have a way of conveying basics that ring true and make a point. I agree with all you say, and have been aware of all of it for more than a decade. I do what I can to help myself stay healthy. I love nature and animals and am very lucky to live surrounded by trees and wild greenery. I have recently sown a native meadow to help native insects and birds survive. Pls teach people that there will be no life on this planet for us if there are no pollinators and the birds will die if they cannot feed their young. I myself didn''t even know that certain insect species depend on particular native plants to survive. The monarch butterfly is facing extinction because people have removed milkweed plants. People have also replaced native plants with lawns or imported plants that have no value for native wildlife. We need insects to grow our food. We all depend on this network (life cycle) to function. We are One. Greetings from Tiger Mtn :-) . 🙏
1
Did you drink enough water? I agree though, you need to balance your foods to be healthy! In general, food phobia ia not the answer, unless you have special allergies etc.
1
So you know him personally? (Rhetorical question. I know you don't. You would never dare to say this to someone you have met face to face.)
1
Coconut oil sadly has saturated fat.... . Best wishes!
1
@CHXFIT95 I am well acquainted with the internet, I'd say since 1994. 30 years, my first computer had 8 mgs of ram LOL and I had to go through a portal to get to the actual internet. In all these years I have become quite good at "reading" people and their motivations. Things add up for me re Dr. Goobie, so I simply believe/trust him. His story makes sense to me.
1
