  1. ​ @jeanniemullinder9038  It was planned because Catherine had consulted a Doctor to obtain a diagnosis .It seems possible the surgery was a little more complex than expected hence the relatively long stay in hospital.

  2. A vasectomy is a routine procedure and day surgery is normal.

  3.  @MTknitter22  I believe planned means the Doctors had been consulted and were aware of her problem. It follows that the surgery was not an emergency decision but had been recommended after consideration of the symptoms and the test results.
