Davic perhaps you do not understand that NATO is an organisation which comprises a large number of countries rather than just the U S A .Each country is independent and makes decisions on the basis of its own interests. Russia does not work in concert with others and takes an aggressive stance as it is doing in Ukraine .The destruction and the loss of life is dreadful and can't be justified.

  10.  @iaiolibertario  Do you not understand the distinction between defence and attack. The countries who border Russia are all afraid of being attacked and therefore ask for assistance from NATO . If your house was being attacked or threatened you would call for help because it is a natural reaction.

  14. Capresti there was nothing to discuss with Putin. Ukraine is an independent country and elected a government in accordance with its Constitution .The Russian view of the Ukraine government was irrelevant and continues to be irrelevant.

I think Russia was very wrong to invade Ukraine and in effect to punish the population for NATO expansion when they are not members . The time for ceasing the exchange of bombs etc is now and can't wait for Politicians to climb down from their soap boxes .There is too much at stake for the poor of the World to delay .

  21.  @jayizquierdo9534  I am also very opposed to War and I agree World War 3 will mean the end of civilisation. Russia has nothing to fear from NATO but has this paranoid attitude which Western diplomats do not understand . At the moment I am unable to see what can be done to obtain what we need but someone needs to take the iniative and act as an honest broker between Russia and NATO and the UN .

  27.  @Stockman817  Putin has been ruling Russia for approximately 20 years and the country is mired in corruption .The standard of living for the average Russian has not improved and the promises he made on taking over from Yeltsin have not been fulfilled. He has turned his attention to Ukraine which has oil , gas , mineral wealth and agricultural land and has decided it should become part of Russia once again. The desire of the Ukrainians to join NATO and the EU means nothing to Putin and he is using massive force to get what he wants. A false story is being circulated suggesting the Ukraine government has been killing citizens in Luhanska and Donetska since 2014 but I believe that is propaganda being produced by the Putin controlled media .

  30.  @armandanderson34  I too am a householder in a place like Ukraine .I wake up one morning and find 150,000 gun men just outside my property. I call the person in charge of the gun men and he tells me it is just a training exercise and I accept that explanation. A few days later the bullets start to be fired, the tanks start to roll and the missiles begin to fly . What do I do next ?

R Anderson the U S A intervened when Iraq invaded Kuwait .I believe the NATO countries had no choice but to help Ukraine when Russia invaded .What you have to consider is that Putin is escalating his military activity and one does not know where he will stop. Someone has to say STOP and mean it .

  38.  @randerson4383  Intervention in Iraq was required because Sadam Hussein invaded a peaceful and prosperous neighbout merely because he wanted its assets .Putin invaded Ukraine because he wants to expand his economic stranglehold on the World by taking possession of mineral resources, oil , gas and foodstuffs; NATO is actually a red herring. I strongly disagree with you about NATO involvement as Russia needs to be contained before it is too late .
