thats plausible. then the west will report on the deforestation. the rich will lose their plot and fund the poor to rile up an uprising. there will be documentaries on the complaints of the displaced even when their properties are replaced with apartments.

@captainbroady the homeowners will see price & rent fall, the mortgages will go underwater and the rich will fund an uprising. how do you solve that? the next problem would be 'turns'. who gets priority on public housing slots? the large families, the poor or the ones who have been lining up for decades - each bears their own tale to a hostile press.

does hk really want massive low cost apartments and a hukou system? because thats the only feasible solution i can think of.

@captainbroady the housing problem in hk is tricky. i just googled, home ownership rate is around 50%. no matter what any government/system do, one half of the population are unhappy 😆

Ryan Chrison my solution of low cost housing + hukou system is inspired by the singapore system. hukou system would stop the flow of mainlanders settlers from overcrowding hk (they can work there but are not entitled to social benefits).
