so who makes better tanks?

pays for what exactly?

@DOWNUNDER. the EU is still far ahead of the US when it comes to Ukraine aid.

@DOWNUNDER. no but i can do it in Euro. By 1. of May 2024, The EU has spent 102B euro, and pledged another 76B euro for multi years support. The US has spent 74B euro, and pledged another 25B euro. Source: Kiel Institute.

is the 120mm gun even necessary? Tank vs tank seems to be very rare, so the main target is infantry. Wouldn't it make more sense to have a smaller gun with a higher rate of fire and more ammo?

@glendacastillo6504 sure, but the US is many times larger than any country in Europe. And the economy of the US is larger than the entire EU. If you compare Ukraine aid to the size of each country's economy or population, then the US is not even in the top 10...

@Ganymede559 Denmark is already one of the countries spending the most on Ukraine per capita.
3
@nainex52 that is not even close to being true. The majority of the heavy weapons in Ukraine have been donated by European countries.

@Carewolf sure, but a few air-bursting 35mm rounds would probably be better at clearing trenches than 1 120mm round. And there are also self-propelled artillery and mortars on the battlefield, plus missiles designed to take out bunkers. It just seems a little silly to design a tank to fight other tanks, when that is not their main role on the battlefield. If you want to use a heavily armored vehicle to assault an enemy position, then it seems to me that a high rate of fire would be useful.

why would the Germany navy need fighter jets?

@militant_pacifist but a self-proppeled mortar like AMOS or CV90 Mjlølner might be better for the role of short-range artillery. The Swedes even have an anti-armor mortar round called Strix, which is heat seeking so it can land on top of a tank. The idea of a drone tank is cool, but i think jamming might be a problem.
