  2. GDP is a measure of economic activity. But it is just one indicator, if you want to compare how well different nations are doing then you have to look at more than one measure. Taking on debt, producing artillery shells and printing more dollars is all counted as economic activity. These things can grow a nation's gdp, but it won't actually make the nation richer.
