@NMonte1000 It isn't true. The then soviet union faced exactly the same as now, an army funded by the west, and all of their weapons were given freely by the west. As it will now, at the time it lead to the total collapse of what was the soviet union, this should lead to the dissolution of the most aggressive country in the world, namely Russia!!
