@thom0243 Yes, However read the post after this by one David Houseman. It explains exactly why they have certain weapons, but no present commitment to buy them. It saves your tax a lot of money, and means as he says weapons can be readily supplied as necessary. It means the company supplying the weapons must at least have a small amount on site at least partially built. For which they get a small fee from the government. Plus the Mk41 VLS system is just a launch system it has many compatible missile systems from cruise missiles to Sea ceptor (the latter with some adaptation), which can be launched from it!!

@thom0243 Then why the negative comment?

3.5% would put it roughly where Margarette Thatcher inherited it.

LOL No British warship travels the world with complete stores of Ammunition on board. Why do you think RFA's are always in tow? Wow Not even in WW1, or WW2 did ships carry everything they could in terms of weapons on board. Such short sightedness in this post.

@fod1855 We are not talking about pay rises, but the amount spent on defence. The military currently and deservedly gets above inflation pay rises. Thye do more than you for the UK, and it's image, so should be entitiled to a much better lifestyle

@fod1855 So you are correct in the military you don't tend to get large pay rises, and by and large that historically was the case. however because they do, they are well paid, but not compenasated for putting their lives on the line every time they are in uniform. However you can Thank Margarette Thatcher and her first act as Prime minister to give the Armed forces a huge pay rise, which at the time bought us back to the same level as people in civvy street doing similar jobs, but without the life risks the forces have. His whole comment apart from the last very small sentence was all about the size of the forces, and cost. However you took the pay sentence and ran with it! I personally think as an ex forces person that Forces pay increases should always exceed the cost of living rises/inflation, just because I know what they do for this country. There is a reason why private security firms pay ex forces people lots, and lots of money to do basically mostly what they did in the forces. It is the fact they do what they do without question as long as it is legal.

@HG69405 Look let's not argue over a measly £3 billion. When the financial year ends every department really spends more than the original allocation.
