Comments by "Rob MacKay" (@rrmackay) on "How Uber Screwed You and Your Driver to Make Its First Profit" video.
I hope you have been building a little black book of customers who can contract with you directly ?

@japprivera3129 Exactly, being an uber driver is like being a fast food worker. You are not a valuable member of the team, just a commodity to be used to make a profit.

if its not worth it then stop doing it.

@loganskiwyse7823 if the company is shorting you and essentially treating you like a slave why do you care if setting up your own drive business is illegal ?
3
@rockyBalboa6699 If someone is dumb enough to work at a loss why should we care ? It is their choice. Suggesting that the law should get involved in voluntary transactions is just evil.

@Rohilla313 No I won't, I'm old - I grew up without GPS and I am fully comfortable using a paper map, I grew up in time when walking was considered normal. I have friends and family that will give me a ride so I don't really care.
2
@midas5694 Building a platform like Uber is not really a big challenge, the barrier to entry would be government regulation and law enforcement. Uber has spent much more on Lawyers than they have on engineers.

@loganskiwyse7823 If the company is going to rip you off and be protected by corrupt politicians, why should you care about legality ? Allowing you to be stopped by government is what allows monopoly to exist in the first place.
1
@loganskiwyse7823 As a libertarian I see licensing and taxi badges as evil, unnecessary and just a barrier to competition for the taxi industry. It is a corrupt situation that disadvantageous workers and small business owners. If you are legally prevented from making a living then making an illegal living is the next best option.

@8307c4 yeah thats fine, they operate in a grey criminal area so I will as well.
1
@mike_111 Thats why I encourage drivers to become independent. There are so many lobby groups that want to control who can drive, Taxis, ride-sharing, even public transit wants to stop independent drivers.
1
Of course it is, anything over 50% is a monopoly basically. Shows who owns the anti-trust division of the DOJ
1
@seilaoquemvc2 This is incorrect, free markets are the anti-dote to monopoly. Government prevents competitors from entering the market and in the case of ride share will attack individuals who try to run private taxi services. Want more income ? Want better services ? Want more competition ? get government licensing out of the way.
1
Working a gig is a choice, if they are ripping you off don't work for them. You can easily run your own ride share business if you hustle.
1
@shacktime I create my own jobs, I produce products and service and sell them. Its not really difficult. I know exactly whats going on and I know its your personal weakness that prevents you from doing your own thing.
1
@stevenotero2627 I'm a paid contractor, i make more money as a contractor than an employee. I choose to be a contractor.
1
Underpaid is a bit misleading, if the product or service does not have enough profit margin to pay more then it shouldn't exist i guess. We are already seeing the death of fast food business for exactly what you are arguing. They can't pay $20 an hour for fast food workers so they are closing down.

@WarrenPeaceOG Liberal economics has led the nation to ruin, deeper in debt than any nation in history, highest taxes in the world and yet the nation is crumbling. .
1
@Garywhitetrumphobgobbler Saying anything should be illegal is lame, our nation is run by criminals, they craft laws to protect their criminal cronies from the public not the other way around.
1
@midas5694 yeah I have only been a software engineer for 35+ years, working on everything from flight control systems to currency trading platforms. The ride share app and its requirements are really very simple. The legal and regulatory environment is much more difficult and expensive.
1
The solution to the problem is more competition which will sort out driver pay and rider cost better than any regulation ever could.
1
@dead2802 keep in mind that government is the group enforcing illegality. There will always be outlaw corporations, it is governments job to police them. They have failed. When the government makes you an outlaw for doing the right thing then being an outlaw is righteous.

Now is the opportunity for drivers, with a drastic reduction in the available low priced labor the big boys are in trouble. Work as a driver but demand a higher rate.
