I wish we in the middle of America had such trains In 1956, we had a high school trip to Chicago on the Rock Island line, when we got to Blue Island, it became very bumpy so we had to go slow...about twenty years later, I used the same railway. When we got to Blue Island, we experienced the same poor track. 20 years and no improvements - now we have no trains. We must drive south about 40 miles to find a train :)

After than, I was riding in an air force ambulance. We broke down, and me being a former farm kid, if we had a bit of wire handy, I could have used that and we could have gotten along on the other axle but, no wire. Then I am given coins to call the base. Less than 24 hours in Turkey, I am given coins to call the base but with good luck, the Catholic Chaplin drives up & I am saved. We drive and get to a US Navy base & have lunch. We get to the base and I see the ambulance towed in later that night. That was my introduction to Turkey. I did repay that one dollar.
