So are seriously suggesting cherry picking passages from a near 40 year old book and revising, opining and almost reinterpreting them warrants cancelling Irvings entire oeuvre? I've yet to read a historiographer who's work hasn't been superseded in some form. E.G. are we to dismiss Konrad Heiders- Der Fuehrer , (1944, "The world's foremost expert. ") too as evidently he wrote it in the wrong era, putting forth flagrantly unacceptable nuanced links and of course isn't an Allied/Victor ? Me think one protesteth way too much. Best we define accurate history before writing off a chaps entire life's work my friend.

@Goyakahian1 I like you! Seriously though well said and confirms my experience at 50.

Fine historian. Example one is a simple case of interpretation and view when it's clear the facts are the same! Example 3, is, as Tik states, from a provisional report.. I'm quite certain any history etched nearly 40 years ago has also gone through "revision". Sad and wrong that having this chat in Deutschland would lead to gaol and in our current zeitgeist similar culling of our freedoms will continue here in England too! Our fallen grandfather (Russian convoy casualty.)was amongst the thousands of our forefathers who swallowed that old lie and a mere two generations back would not recognise his own land!

@vandeheyeric Thanks for your reply, I enjoyed it and must say it would have had pendulous properties abound be it not for your giveaway insults, clearly you fell emotionally into it. I restate my initial comment however once again I sincerely appreciate your words.

What a baby/bathwater broadside!

Lovecraft Perhaps, but the notion of genuine honest mistakes and the work being opined on is 40 years old and what aged work has stood up to sentence interpretations should allow for leniency..

@parabot2 I'm sorry, I'm not sure as to what you are referring here?

@TheImperatorKnight I'm aware this is your/an income and as another fellow commented here we only have a finite time to manage our best understanding of our forefathers existence so, minus the cherry picked Examples mentioned, I restate on the whole appear to me consistent (if I was reading without such promotions...) & surely only preformed opinions would hold any other sway?I have to question what your notion of a historian is whilst we're aware of the myriad angles they derive? Moving on to stats I'm not certain about it being His stats as it wasn't clear but again this is a 40 year old book and we could rip Konrad Heidens 1944 tome to pieces in the same fashion, ( Or you could.) and I really have no proverbial dog in this other than seeking a rational explanation to that "mesmerized Germans" nonsense we were, and are served up. Look by this criteria I could denounce most of those dreadful History . Co documentaries in the same vain you attempt to do to Irving here but surely that's not only not my prerogative it's negating all the undisclosed information Irving has evidently offered us. I'm not even going to mention the styles and readability as in this context it's not necessary. Well done promoting a buzz Sir but I simply don't agree and haven't got the air left to question each sentence of each read especially as a middle aged Englishman who's devoured tales, books, and suchlike therefore hold a certain level anyway. Respectfully.
