  1. It's very important to realize our memories are imperfect. If two people get into a fight, they might "lie" about how it started without even realizing it, and both will think the other is a dirty liar. I remember reading an article written by a political pundit I hated, then going back to it a decade later and seeing I totally mismembered what he said, and he was almost arguing the opposite of what I thought he was.

  2. This is why lots of people block out being abused as a child. They never talk about it, and it doesn't fit their preconceptions with the world if it was someone they trusted. Many memories are actually records of records of records.

  3. The "Berenstein Bears" thing makes sense because "stein" is a common suffix in German surnames. Or maybe it's "stien" but that's still closer.
